Before I got my boobies. I breastfed in public but I use, the breast feeding shirt, and when my babies was younger a recieving blanket. But when the children get older they move the blanket. Exspecially if it is hot. WHy cant people just leave women alone when it comes to breast feeding thier kid in public. when it is a natural thing.
My daughter choose to breast feed her dolls. When I breast feed my son. People thought that was a bad thing for her do! Yet you can wacth people walk arouund in string bikini outside.

Why in dog's name should it matter if I woman takes her titty out and breastfeeds!!! I swear, if I have kids and someone complains to me, I WILL shoot them square in the eye with my milk!!! buahahahahaha....

I'm going to agree that they're all simillar natural functions, however, i have no problem with anyone doing any of them "in public". however, by in public i mean outdoors. id prefer people not to shit and piss wherever they want indoors. but breastfeeding doesn't leave waste (albeit natural) like the other two. So theres no reason why someone shouldn't be able to breastfeed anywhere.

Personally, I'm apposed to public breast feeding without a blanket. I'm not going to state my hows or whys because I know exactly which responses I'll get and I don't want to turn it into a flame war.
My opinion on the feed-in though... what the FUCK difference is that going to make? "Gee you don't like this... so I'll do it RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!" How is being an asshole proving ANY point? They could have complained much more civilly. It's like eating meat in front of a vegetarian because it makes him sick. How will that make him stop? Really?

They're feeding their children, dammit. It's an immature aspect of American culture that has sexualized breasts anyway.
Good on them.
I breast fed in public for 2 years, thankfully no-one gave a shit. I never covered with a blanket - fuck that shit! I never tried to hide it either. Its just a boob of milk big deal. I belive its one of the first things most of us see and are happy to see at that. Why change? (-:

^^This no breastfeading in public is an Americanism. Bloody Bullshit. Its natural, and the best thing for the kid. I used to be embarrassed by it, but now I am not. Still in the US you'd have a crowd of people staring at you with looks of disgust, or looking away in shame, and having to put their two cents in.... grrr. To the onlookers: Just keep your mouth shut buddy, and walk away.
I still crack up about the first time I saw breastfeeding in public. I was about 16 at the time, and and me and some mates were going to the cheap blank cd store on K' Road in Auckland....![]()

I breastfed Makayla in public. Hey, when you're hungry, you're hungry. Would you rather have a quiet, peacefully nursing child or a child screaming from hunger?
Most women I know don't rip their shirts off to feed their kid. They do it discreetly. I was nursing Makayla at a restaurant one time (in a booth...with a thin blanket) and was approached and asked if I could do it elsewhere. When I asked where, I was told that the bathroom had a chair in it. I laughed and told the waitress that I would nurse Makayla in there right after she got done eating her dinner in the bathroom. That's fucking nasty.
I do find it funny that people don't have a problem with their children watching sex acts on TV or movies...but they have a problem with me discreetly nursing my baby. But, to each his own. It doesn't make me uncomfy...if it makes you uncomfy...well, its a free world and you're welcome to look away.![]()

I just noticed while at the gym this morning that we have a public service announcment on tv here in ABQ encouraging mothers to breastfeed.... some of the places they showed in the ad were public places so I guess it is seen as ok to breastfeed in public around here...... which is just fine by me!

Lillith, Im sorry but that is utterly ridiculous. The last thing you care about or want to be doing when you're a nursing mum is creating unnessesary attention when you are breastfeeding. For one thing it makes feeding harder if there are distractions. Harder feeding = crotchety baby (who doesnt get fed therefore doesnt settle) = stress = fuck thats our whole day messed up.
Besides when you have a baby you get so much attention anyway, you dont need to create more. People love babies, everywhere you go people stop and coo. - At all other times except feeding and nappy changing time generally.
I think the whole point of the protest was "This is natural, its the simplest thing to do if your a baby or nursing mother - get used to it!"
And you can hardly accuse nursing mums of not caring for their baby, hello!
Do you have any idea how much harder it makes things for both mother and baby to have to faff about at feeding time by trying to be discreet when you have a crying hungry child, or to find a designated area for feeding? Do you realise how that can have a negitive effect on being able to breast feed at all? Do you really think women with babies have time for extra attention anyway?

Wow you have no idea what you are talking about do you? I hope that foot in your mouth is clean.
I am ALWAYS amazed by people and their stereotypes. How about a not hairy hot LLL mom? How about your average normal mom who happens to care more about the well beign of her own family and the scientific data to support her choices than your small minded opinion. How about a stripper LLL mom? How about me?
Asshole.
Are their crunchy. slightly whacky LLL moms out there? Of course there are. But having gone to LLL for the last five years I can honestly in my heart of hearts say the whackos are few and far between.
Edited to add stuff, lol.

Lillith Nurse In's are like thier own little civil rights movement. There are LAWS in most states to protect moms. Including Vermont where this occurred. They DID break the law.

I'm all for them doing a sit in. I dont think they were trying to be assholes, its just a way of proving a point. That its natural.
I love America, but I'm going to have to agree with those who have said its a ridiculous stigma that American culture puts on the female body and sexuality. Someone needs to remind America that SEX ISNT EVIL nor is a woman's body, and that nursing, though it does involve a woman's breast, is not an offensive act. Are they worried their kid is going to ask "mommy whats she doing?" or something? Feeding her baby. It's not dirty or disgusting. Its just human.
America has alot to learn....
I could not agree with you more Pooka. There are a lot of great htings aboutthis country. But that isn't one of them. Ironically most of the hostility comes form other women- for whatever reason.
No we don't concieve babies in public- but breastfeeding is not at all sexual. It just isn't. There was a study on some 300 cultures in the late nineties (by anthropologist Kathrine Dettwyler) about wether or not the breasts were considered sexual. Only 14 of them considered them sexual, only 14 used them during sex but not the same 14. The rest of the world thinks we are bumbling idiots I am sure.
^^^Gotta agree with lilith, there. It's easier to tell people you're Canadian when travelling.
Women should be discreet about it. There are plenty of women who seem to think it's OK to plop their breast out and make a big to-do of it and then get mad that people are staring. I know the kind of person LM is referring to....for me, it's kinda hard to explain, but there does seem to be some kind of attention thing with some women.
Personally I think the act of nursing is disgusting to begin with, but I understand the need for it, if that's how you choose to feed your kid. I personally will not nurse at all ....should I ever have kids, that is. (And no, I don't care that it's 'natural' and studies prove this, that or the other...so flame away). To each their own....I just don't want to see your nasty, droopy, flat, stretch-marked veiny boob. :shudder:
I think these women that did the nurse-in are morons and if I was on a plane next to a woman who was nursing, I would definitely complain. Right or wrong, I don't care...I'd still complain and demand to change seats if the woman refused to cover up.
