Exclamation Sweaty hands... am i doomed?

I have just started dancing, and when it comes down to it, my pole tricks suck. I can do mabey 3. I understand that they will come with practice. BUT, i have hyper hydrosis in my hands and feet. So far it seems to be sort of a problem. In 3 mights ive lost a shoe on stage 4 times, cuz those damn plastic shoes get slippy inside.

7 months ago I got botox in my palms to deal with it. It worked. However it was freakin expensive, and wears off. Its not something i can afford for probably a few months. In the meantime the pole gets so damn slimey. Ive had others girls wander around the backstage touching all the girls legs to see who was wearing baby oil or moisturizer. Big time no-no. But it was my damn sweaty hands.

Does anyone have any product suggestions? Ive tried anti-persperant, alcohol hand sanitizer, windex, and drysol. All without any luck.

    Any suggestions?

ask them to wipe down the pole with some metholated spirits to clean it first.
u could even put some on your hands but warning it does dry the skin out.
when i do pole competitions i use strong hold hair spray on my palms and inner thighs.

Did you use a spray on or roll on anti-persp.?
    Try Arid XX spray on.

I was told this stuff works wonders on even the sweatiest of hands.

Also for the shoe problem get some with straps. And try to steer clear of the plastic clear shoes or you can wear your garter around your ankle and shoe to keep them securely on you feet.

I love these shoes I recently switched from clear to these because I tend to sweat a bit too and these just last longer.

I hope this helps a bit!!

^^^^ I really like those shoes!!!!

Definately only buy shoes with straps. I learned this myself after having a shoe fly off my foot while spinning around the pole. My feet get pretty sweaty, most of the time baby powder is enough help, though. And doesn't your club have a towel or something on hand to wipe down the pole???? I always wipe it down at the beginning of my first song.

I am soooo going to try that dry hands stuff, sounds like it could be a quick fix!

I used Mitchums unscented roll on liquid stuff. I used my hair dryer to make sure my hands were dry before i went on stage.

Oh yes they do have a strict schedual for cleaning both poles on both stages. But before I came on board, once every hour was adequate.

Im going to look for that drygrip.

Hi, the best what you can use is 'magnesium' thats a white powder what they use in circus and in the olimpic games if they do the rings etc.....Magnesium is the dutch word for it i have no idea how its called in English, i myself am trying to find it here in London but without any luck....You can try to find it in a specialized sportshop .

Extra hold hairspray. I use it for slippery poles and my sweaty hands. It seems to work for me.. I wash my hands with soap that will dry my hands out then dry them and spray the extra hold hair spray.

Also you may want to try boots.. I would go for a cute ankle boot, so your still showing your legs off. Put lots of baby powder in them regularly to keep them dry and non smelly.

    Good luck!

Not sure the magnesium is such a good idea as that stuff is clearly visible on your hands. And you don't want people to think you spilled your cocaine stash.

liquid chalk will be a good friend of yours.

i too have hyperhydrosis, and i use it for pole dancing (haven't started stripping yet ), and it's great. it has alcohol to help dry your hands, and the benefits of chalk without the white chalky look on your hands.

it gives good tack to them, so you can get a better grip on the pole. i've seen a bunch of places online that you can buy it, but i can't recommend any as i've never used them. (i buy it from my dance studio).

    g'luck!

Good old Gillette Shaving Gel...a dime size in you hand is enough to grip hands, legs and calves if you are wearing shoes!!

it contains alcohol which helps to dry the skin.

I had sweaty hands quite severely all my life, and then went to Dr. Reisfeld in Beverly Hills, CA for an outpatient surgery to solve this problem. It's been 7 years now, and I've had no sweaty palms at all--just soft, appropriately dry hands. The recovery time is short--only a week. Only downside is "compensatory sweating," meaning that you may experience more sweating around the torso to make up for lack of sweating from palms. Also, Dr. Reisfeld will tell you right away that the surgery won't necessarily solve feet sweating.

You can check out Dr. Reisfeld's website at http://www.sweaty-palms.com/hyperhidrosis.html

He specializes in hyperhidrosis issues. He's incredibly helpful, and he follows up with you to make sure all is well. In addition, his office staff will do anything to help with payment/insurance issues.

HOWEVER--this surgery is quite pricey. When I got it in 1999, the surgery was around 12 grand. If you have health insurance, you might want to contact Dr. Reisfeld's office to see if they work with them. I had Blue Shield, and they covered a good portion of it. Hyperhidrosis is increasingly recognized as a health condition, and thus the surgery is not cosmetic, but rather essential (or whatever the tech term is for non-elective surgery).

    Good luck!

as for the shoe thing, you can get those clear shoes that have a cushiony bottom, or buy the adhesive ones. If its still a prob buy a shoe w/ a strap.

I tried searching "liquid chalk" on ebay and they were all colors... Do they look like colors but come out clear?? I searched "clear liquid chalk" and found nothing..
What did you search to find this? Or maybe I will be able to find it at a sports store..

If you get some shoes with straps that will solve that problem. I don't know how girls do any pole tricks in strap-less shoes. I had to wear some for a couple weeks a few months ago and I don't even have sweaty feet and those damn shoes flew off once every night.

As for palms... I know you have a medical condition but do you think maybe being nervous is exacerbating it? I would try using the pole as little as possible, you can dance perfectly well on stage without doing any pole tricks. Also, wipe the pole down before you start. I've seen a lot of girls do this themselves; I even saw one girl incorporate it into her routine.

I think the only reason I had sweaty palms was that I was nervous....but they do come back whenever I am really going at it with the pole tricks and I get really sweaty. haha. and I NEVER UNDERSTOOD how girls would keep their shoes on if they were slip ons... But you know, one girl's shoe DID fly off, hit the mirror, and left a HUUUUUGE crack in it while custies were around. (very humorous watching it all go down.) lmao

I told my mother about that story and she laughed. She was like, "I don't get why you girls have to wear those trampy shoes nowadays, but they look dangerous....as if they'll fly off your feet and hit someone!" hahaha

she laughed her ass off when I told her about my sweaty feet/palm problem...she just laughed at me...no help. But you girls have helped.

    thanks!
