Default should they have let me work

i got lost tonight on my way to a new club. i had been hired at this club last week, but thanks to mapquest i decided to try a new way to get there...well it took me about 2 hours to get there (lots of wasted gas) i got there around 11pm and i told the manager what happened...he told me to come back tomorrow. now I UNDERSTAND that girls start work at 7 and they have all been there and stuff, but I wasnt lying - i really did get lost and it cost me lots of time and gas to get there. i think he could have been nice and let me start. what do you guys think? anyway, it was a totally wasted night.

if you had shown him the mapquest directions, I think he should have, but you have to understand that managers get tired of girls bitching about, "but you let that other girl start at 11!" So, even if you were telling the truth, there's lots of clubs that wouldn't let you just to avoid the barage of girls bitching about it and asking for the same treatment.

No matter what your excuse was, whether it was totally truthful or out and out BS, these guys have heard so much crap over the years, time and again, over and over...that even if a spaceship had melted your car with Oprah and Mother Teresa as eyewitnesses, it wouldn't have mattered. All that registered with him was that you were not there on time. Chalk it up as a loss, of course, and hopefully better luck next time.

That sucks but how long is the club open for? It probably wouldn't have been worth it anyways. At least you know how to get there.

If I am calculating right..you said it took you 2 hrs to get there and you arrived at 11. Which means if you hadnt gotten lost you would have gotten there around 9 right? Well...that would still have been 2 hrs late if you are supposed to start at 7.

I couls see the manager giving ou a break if you were 20-30 minutes late..but 4 hours? Sorry...sucks for you I know but rules are rules. Why didnt you call the club when you realized you were lost?Maybe if he had a heads up about the trouble you were having he may have been more understanding....I dont know how this guy is, but something to think about next time.

I hate when stuff like that happens. It wasn't really your fault(at least it wasn't your intention), and it wasn't his fault...it was the circumstances/situation. I had something like that happen back when I had a shitty hostess job at a popular chain restaurant. I couldn't get to work because I didn't have a car, the restaurant was in the middle of the sticksville suburbs, and the only bus that ran up to the restaurant did not run on Sunday...and it was a Sunday. Even though I lacked a car, phone for calling people, etc I tried to be resourceful. I went to my college's library(was the only library open all day on a Sunday) and spent all day long IMing peoples' cell phones from AOL instant messenger on the library's computers. I used the last few cents to my name, to finally call outta work and whaddyaknow...the payphone cut me off in the middle of me talking. Finally I IMed my one friend, and he offered to call the manager for me and explain what happened with the ride issue and why my phonecall had cut out. So he called, but the manager was pissed and confused that he called for me. The next day when I was able to borrow someone's cell phone, I called the GM and explained everything to her and she claimed that I was "fine." I WAS DOING THE VERY BEST THAT I POSSIBLY COULDA DONE!!

When I finally got to work the next scheduled work day, the assistant manager(the "mean" manager; the one who my friend had called) told me off and wrote me up, and when I explained the situation, he refused to listen just as this club manager did. He didn't even give two shits that I'd talked to the GM, and she was listening the whole time and didn't even say anything nice. THat pissed me off so much!(well, I didn't think much at the time, but after discussing it with others and reflecting back on it, was when I got pissed off about it) Then he was like "I think your friend was lying for you. He said you were at your college. But I thought you dropped out of college because you couldn't afford the tuition?"(what a snob!) I tried to explain that I'd been in the area because I'd been tutoring students that weekend for extra money, and that I needed to use their library to IM people in my only (failed) attempt to get a ride, and he put his hand up in my face and said snootily, "Whatever, I don't even care. You lied enough already." WTF??? And this was all about stuff that either wasn't my fault, or stuff that was a complete false perception!

Glad I quit that shitty job! When I started dancing, I quit the restaurant job very soon after. Oh, and the restaurant job didn't pay peanuts either! Sorry to vent, just had to share. I've been there before too. And it is so frustrating!
