Default Those who do a lot of floor work

At my club we have 2 satalite stages and the main stage. When I'm on main stage (unless I'm in my gown) I LOOOVE doing floorwork and I always make the best tips it seems!

Anything new or cool you reccomend? Anything to sooth sore knees? I'm gunna search youtube but I would really like to find some cool new stuff. But with the discomfort of moving on a hard floor its worth it for the tip incease and it also ups my lapdanced when they see me on stage.

I'm still learning things myself about floorwork, as I am more of a pole girl, but as far as the sore knee things, I would suggest wearing thigh highs sometimes...it's helped me. The material allows your legs to basically slide over the floor so there is no "sticking" to the floor causing brusing, cuts, sores, etc.

And all the guys I've sat with always comment about how much they like thigh highs....

    hope this helps

Ooh, I love floor work too, so this is gonna be a novel. I only have a few moves but it is sooo much fun! I've seen some girls doing what looks like sexy yoga. I think it's the arched back that does it. There is this one dancer at my club who has amazing hip flexibility and she does some crazy things with the splits. Unfortunately I'm nowhere near as flexible or strong as she is (yet!).

In terms of moving around... crawling is sexy but it's hard to do without banging up your knees (unless you have good ankle flexibility, rest on your shins, and drag your legs). Instead, if I want to move down the tip rail, I do the thing where you roll on your hips or butt.

I sit on my butt and pull my knees up to my chest - tilt them to the left, feet pointing to the right - and kind of lean to the left. My feet should be off the floor, I'm leaning back, and supporting myself with my hands. Then push (with hands I think) so that my whole body swings to the right - feet should lead. I swing all the way around - 360 degrees. Since I started with my feet pointing to the right, they are now pointing to the left and I have moved about a foot to the left. Now I can now scoot myself on my butt if my next customer is far away, or I can roll forward to standing, or roll forward onto my knees and then plunge my chest to the ground (so that my butt is in the air and my weight is on my knees but above them, more like the bottom of the quads) and do it again, etc. You can do variations with both legs extended, one leg extended; I've seen a girl doing it in the splits, but I can't do that and look sexy. You can also roll onto your calves and thighs. I try to spend as much time on my side as possible, or if I am on my knees I try to not actually rest on my knees but around them, and in as many different places as possible.

Also you can move up onto your thighs and bend your upper chest back and bend your knees in like you are trying to touch your feet to your head, or the "lean back from a kneeling position and rest on your shins and look like you're humping" dance. I seem to end up doing that alot. Now the only time I am ever on my actual knees is when I am doing lap dances and I start out kneeling on the floor between the customer's legs so I can climb up.

Also, I was told to ice my knees if I'm working the next day, or apply heat if I'm not. The first few weeks I was doing floorwork I wrapped them in ace bandages when I got off and did hamstring stretches and quad exercises.

Anyhow, I'd love to hear about what others do on the floor. *bookmarking this thread* I'm working on learning some pole tricks just because I think they are so damn cool, but at my club I really enjoy the floor work more because it gets me closer to the customers and I can talk to the guys and try & sell dances while I'm still up on stage.

Oooh, also - look at Playboy! I was at my friend's house and her man had a bunch of playboys so I was flipping through them and I got lots of ideas for sexy poses and transitions.

Oh this is a good link. It's for belly dancing but I think it's probably good for us too:

Another trick to saving your knees: your shoes should have little indentations on the toe. Use these to push yourself around. Pushing with your toes instead of knees is easier on your knees.

And make sure you are resting on the INSIDE of your knees..NOT the kneecaps. If you put pressure on the kneecap itself you are in for a world of hurt!

I take arnica before I work that day. Have arnica gel in my bag for right after. Asprin for pain if it gets too bad. Frozen peas for when I get home. These help minimize the swelling and bruising for floor work. After that it gets easier and sometimes develop a callous.

Shoulder stands are great floor moves, also lay on your back, rock your weight back and to the side a bit and slide your hand just above your ass, below your lower back and hold yourself(this is hard to explain lol).. there are some pics from the Miss Nude Ontario with floor work.. i'll try n find them.

Any sort of gymnastics, handsprings, cartwheeles etc are hot... there are soooooo many things to do on the floor.

I have just discovered black knee pads and I throw some thigh highs over them. It is the greatest thing I have ever done for myself. You can't tell they are there and I am saving myself from a world of hurt.

I love using knee pads. When I first started dancing I worked at a place where you went on about 2x an hour for 10-15 mins. All of the girls wore black kneepads, and since girls mainly dressed in a gothy way it fit right in with the fishnets and stuff. Great with knee high boots. Now I only go onstage about once an hour for six minutes and I wear normal heels so I've stopped wearing the kneepads... but that was after a year of wearing them and I think it saved me from a lot of pain with first adjusting to continual knee abuse.

I got mine at safeway (the grocery store). They're ace bandage types and noticeably smaller than thick heavy kneepads.

I went to a dancer store and bought black knee pads there. Oh, the ace bandage also sounds like a good idea! I figure there is no reason I need to do this for a couple of years but mess my knees up for a lifetime!
