Default Newbie question about burlesque vs. stripping

I was just wondering if someone could explain the difference between the two.

burlesque has no lap dancing, it is purely art/comedy for watching. it's getting naked, entertaining from a stage while stripping. you do not make money really doing burlesque, it's more like being a part of a show.

stripping is dancing on a stage as well but it's minus the artsy comedic performance that burleque has and you can make a lot of money stripping. you are much more 1 on 1 in this.

    google this fo rmore information.

    Love it!

Burlesque is the self proclaimed "art of the tease". Most times they do not go full nude, but rather g string and pasties.

Back in the day there was no difference, because most strippers were burlesque performers. If you were gonna get naked for money, the times demanded that you gussy it up a little bit and have some kind of schtick. What we do now is more directly descended from burlesque since we're getting naked for money just like they were, whereas modern burlesque performers are, generally speaking, artists. At least that's the way I think of it -- they aren't getting naked for money--or, not very naked and for not much money--and their performances are intended more to entertain than to titillate.

Please check out Jo Weldon's excellent site, G-Strings Forever for more info, and I hope she will pitch in with her opinion here -- she's been on both sides of this fence for a while.

There is an experienced dancer from my state that does these type of shows. Her site has some videos that kind of show what it is:

In my opinion, the primary difference is that when you're stripping in a strip joint you're aiming for the attention of individuals, and when you do burlesque, you're aiming to entertain the whole room all at once. There are exceptions but that's the main difference I've experienced.
