    Lightbulb Xmas on the cheap

Hey people, just though we could share some ideas on how to maximize your gift bang-per-buck.

My thing is to have 2 lists- a short one with close friends/fam that I shop especially for, and a seperate much longer one for distant fam/acquaintances/coworkers/neighbors/ect. For this latter group the past couple years I've been mass-producing a goody bag that looks pretty, is delicious, and inexpensive:

First, I head over to bulkfoods.com and buy a 15lb box of chocolate covered pretzels, and also a 15lb box of yogurt covered pretzels, total there with shipping is about $70. Then hit a local store for some festive cellophane bags and ribbon to tie em, tags optional, definitely possible for at/under $30 (if you don't already have some lying around). After a day's work of filling (half choco half yogurt), bow-tying, & labelling, I'll have 60 or so supercute goody bags ready for givin', total was $100 so that's about $1.67 per bag. (you can get more or less depending on how much you fill the bags & how much you munch while working!)

Since you live in America, you could go to a Costco and it'd be even cheaper!! Yum!

My mum also used to make 'dry' cookie dough. As in... she'd put all the dry ingredients together (flour, sugar..) and then put a list of the wet ingredients you need to add on the jar. Bam! You just gave the gift of 4 dozen homemade cookies for about $.45.

Oh yeah, I got one of those once, pumpkin cake as I recall. And yes Costco is awesome lol I will go see if they stock em but the online price is still a good deal if they don't.

Is there anything cheap to give that isnt food? In my smaller club we give gifts to each other and promised not to give food this year.

another thing is to scope out the free gifts with purchase-- either online or in the store, especially at the perfume or cologne counter. You've either got two presents for people on your list or a present for someone else and a present for yourself

also, some stores offer amazing sales on certain days, or coupons. Last year I had one store that had 20% off coupons during thanksgiving weekend and I went there like four days in a row, getting stuff at 20% off and asking for more coupons.

remember that aspirin facial that's so amazing? Grind that stuff up. Find a pretty cheap container and mix with cetaphil or some mud mask, or leave it by itself. I thought it was good but not as good as everyone said (but I need to keep trying it, my skins been crap lately.)

    what else?

How about not giving presents but going out to lunch or dinner with your loved ones? You get time with them, don't have to shop, and they don't (potentially) get useless crap.

There are a lot of recipes for homemade beauty products on this site: http://www.pioneerthinking.com/

Also Avon has lots of little cheap stocking stuffers and such. And the Christmas Tree Shop is awesome.

I think I'm going to make a pecan pie for my guy.

I like giving gift baskets with a theme...like "PMS Therapy" with Midol/chocolate/sleeping mask (for naps), or "Pamper Yourself Silly" with bath salts, essential oils, candles, hair ties, and sometimes those 1-time use mini deep-conditioning/facial packets. Get creative! Just go to the dollar store/craft store and get some cheap, ultra plain baskets then dress them up with a large colorful bow.

    I'm making book boxes...

I'm gonna get wooden boxes, and paste the cover of a cool old pulp fiction paperback on it. Then I'm going to cut out interesteing sentences from the text inside to decorate the sides. Maybe some macaroni and sparkles too, lol.

^^ and don't forget... if you get a case of Michelobe, you can drink the beer.. cover the bottles in glue.... role them in glitter... and

TA DA candle holders to go with the book boxes...

Properly arranged, it could look like a great pagan shrine..
