    Default Christmas idea.

My friend had this GREAT idea for Christmas. Someone asked her if she was doing anything for the children for Christmas. Of course, hating children, she said no, they get enough, darn it. Everyone thought she was evil.

    But instead, she is:

Buying about 10-20 puzzles at yard sales ($1-$2 a piece!)
    Buying over 100 soft candies
Buying stuffed animals at sales as well

... and going to a Retirement home! She said to me, "Who thinks of the old people on Christmas?! They're so happy to see someone and their children don't even visit."

So I've decided this is also what I'm going to do this year. At most I'll spend about $80 and make 40+ senior people really happy on a day where nobody would even give them a call to see if they're still alive.

It never occurred to me to do this, so I thought it might not occur to anyone else... so maybe help out your local elderly... and give grandma Iris a call this year, hm?

You are an angel. I used to work in a nursing home, and it's so true that they're lonely. They need more wonderful people like you because they drive all the good staff out by working them to death and not respecting them as workers. I love elderly people, but taking care of them is too much because nursing homes only care about profits.

This is a WONDERFUL and mutually rewarding idea.

We used to live next to a nursing home and would go visit the "Nanas", as we called them.

What did we bring? Magazines with large type and tons of yarn. I have gotten so many beautifully crocheted pieces from the Nanas.

When money was tight, we just donated our time. Playing checkers with them...talking with them and asking questions like "What was it like in the old days?" got them starting to reminiscing. I loved it.

That is a great idea. I volunteer at my grandmothers nursing home and there are so many people that don't have a family or they don't come by to visit them so I go there to visit with everyone and its so rewarding to know that your brightening someones day.

Yarn! What a great idea! I have some handspun merino I spun myself that I have no intention of using (I just wanted to spin!) and it cost me $2 per 50g. I bet that would make a lady really happy to have merino I spun for her.

And I loooove the answers you get to, "What was it like?"

'cause old people have the coolest stories ever.

No. No! Christmas is about happy things! Not old people. Geeze!!

Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"
