what do you mean "get lazy"?

Are you doing baby steps? It seems more natural that way. Going "cold turkey" is hard because you're changing so many habits at once. Once you stop thinking of meat as a meal, it will seem weird to ever have eaten it. Right now I'm taking steps to go vegan by eating foods where milk or eggs are not the main ingredient.

I'd get bored of vegetables and tofu every day too. Did you look at any of the vegetarian/vegan cookbooks? So many ideas.

And if you don't want to cook, there are tons of great frozen meals out there for vegetarians/vegans. You just have to look in health food stores or the organic section.

what helped me when i first started, was re-reading, or re-watching books and videos that made me change my diet in the first place. it's always been a moral thing for me, although i do know some people do it solely for health reasons. so... that's what i recommend.
as far as food goes, emily is right. there are SO many ready meals now for vegetarians, or prepacked food, it's really not too difficult, but if you are fed up with what your supermarket has to offer, read a cookbook! i'm always inspired after reading my veggie cookbooks.
also, meat substitutes mean you don't even need a veggie cookbook, just adapt meat dishes you already enjoy. really, most dishes can be vegetarianised, or even veganised with a little shopping around. stick in there!

Six year vegan here. I wish I could say I ate nothing but tofu and vegetables. Unfortunately I'm quite lazy and have a penchant for junk food and fried shit. Here's what I do:

    1. I second the idea of re-watching all the videos that turned you vegan in the first place. (Meetyourmeat.com is great for a kick in ass.) That really does work for me.

    2. Fridge staples you must always have to be a meat-lovin', lazy vegan:

Soy milk (Silk is by far the best) and margarine (Earth Balance and soy Garden are best). You can literally substitute these two for the "real" thing every single time.

FAKE MEAT. I *lurv* meat. Love it--just won't eat it. So, a huge portion of my diet is fake meat. Gardenburger Riblets and Grilled Chicken Patties & Boca Spicy Chicken Patties are some of my favorite "instant" meals. Gimme Lean sausage tastes *better* than the real thing. You won't know it isn't sausage. You can use it to make biscuits and gravy, chorizo burritos, anything sausage is used for! Gimme Lean hamburger or Mornigstar burger crumbles can literally be used for anything you'd use ground beef for. Finally, you can make fried chicken that you will swear is real chicken using Chickette. You can find it frozen in health food stores. You can also use it for chicken and dumplings or whatever else.

Tofutti cheese. It ain't the real thing, but it's as close as you will get. If you make grilled cheese or just put it on a sandwich you will never know.

Another option for "cheese" is nutritional yeast. It's slightly yellowish flaky stuff that you can mix into recipes, sprinkle on popcorn, or make a "cheese" out of to make mac and cheese, scalloped potatoes---anything that requires a cheese sauce. You can google it and find all sorts of stuff to do with it. It's practically pure B vitamins so it's great for you, too.

Some type of egg substitute. You can get the stuff in the box at a health food store, but I much prefer flax seeds. Two tablespoons of ground flax seeds with a quarter cup of warm water gels up and acts as an egg in any baked recipe. Again, this is packed with Omega-3 fatty acids, so it's GREAT for you.

    3. Vegcooking.com has great recipes and tips. However, I have to say my favorite cookbook is Better Homes and Gardens (that red and white gingham cookbook that everyone has). The way I do it, cooking vegan is every bit as easy as regular cooking--you just use basic recipes, and substitute vegan ingredients for non-vegan ones. And there is a recipe for EVERY basic American dish in there. This is my cooking Bible. For example, one of my all-time favorite meals is vegan meatloaf. I use the classic recipe in that book and substitute flax seeds for eggs, Morningstar Farms burger crumbles or Gimme Lean ground "beef" for meat, and soymilk for milk. I use the fried chicken recipe with fake chicken, the lasagna recipe with tofu and fake meat...I could go on and on. I love that damn book!

i second that. if I was a meat eater, I'd eat it instead of sausage. It's low fat and tastes amazing.

and I think if you "can't" watch meet your meat, you shouldn't be allowed to eat it.

from my previous trying vegan i did develope a taste for the gardenburger sausage patties & i'm lactos intolorant anyway so silk vinilla soymilk i something i keep on hand (just not sure if i can cook with it...but i just got a book from teh library on dairy free cooking). i've been trying to go cold turkey..i think i'll wean my way into it and try it that way.

a while ago i saw something on like HBO or Showtime that was a propaganda film..but i think from the farming industry, no PETA. it was an hour long and walked through the life on several farms; and the anouncer was liek all excited about it. i couldnt stop watching out of sheer horror. i've seen the meet your meats videos...they dont compare to this thing..i'll just have to keep it in my mind while i do this.

you have to do what works for you but ive been reading alot (im an internet health article fanatic) on how alot of fake meat and soy products arent good for you ..the texturized soy protein.. if you can it may be better to stick to fermented soy or like the milk, tofu block, miso and tempeh
alot of vegan/vegetarian peoples can be "unhealthy" because they live off fake meats .. this is all from gary null (gary dull).. he is pure vegan with some fish but i dont even think he eats fish.. garynull.com.. he has a library on there with tons of recipes

Never heard of that brand...do they sell it at supermarkets or health food stores?
Anyone find a realistic fake bacon? I've tried a few and they all taste like a combo of play-dough and dog food!

You can get gimme lean at meijer, trader joe's, health food stores, and some regular grocery stores.

the only bacon i ever liked was smart bacon by lightlife. bacon hasn't exactly been perfected yet.

and yeah, if you "live off" fake meat you'll be unhealthy. what do you think happens if you "live off" real meat

it's pretty common here...look right by the tofu. it's refridgerated and in a sausage-like package (like a meat log with metal clips on the sides, if that makes sense).

I made my own almond milk over the weekend (regular milk hurts my tummy) and it was YUMMY! I don't care for soy milk and I got the idea for almond milk from a previous thread here...I think VG mentioned it. It was extremely easy to make. Apparently you can churn it into butter but I'm not about to go that far.

I love soyrizo in tacos. It's still just a treat because even though it is fake meat, it still is pretty high in fat.
