    Default herpes sores & vaseline??

I FINALLY got an outbreak and it hurts Its the first one since I found out I had herpes. I called my doc to ask this ? but he'll prolly take 2 days to get back to me.
Can i put some kind of lotion on them to keep panties and such from sticking? Im still using those big ol maternity pads from the baby birth, and it seems like for some reason those and panties STICK to the sores somehow and it hurts SO bad to pull off. picture wet toilet paper drying on the counter, how it sticks. I feel weird asking this....like Im just a walking ad for herpes. im prolly the only SWer with it.
anyways...anybody know what i can do? vaseline? its sooo uncomfortable.

Don't put anything on them. It'll prolong healing. You want to treat them like any other blister, leave 'em be so they'll dry and heal. In the meantime sitz baths and rinsing with warm water to keep 'em clean should be okie dokie.

NO VASELINE. You might want to try some of the cold sore/fever blister medication at the drug stores. They are meant for oral herpes, but whatever, herpes is herpes. It needs anti-viral medication.

    I found this on plannedparenthood.org:

Warm baths may give some relief of pain. Cotton clothes will help prevent chafing. Keep the sores dry — moisture can slow healing. Holding cool compresses or ice packs to the sores may be soothing. Aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprofen may help relieve pain and fever.
A doctor would prescribe acyclovir (Zovirax), famcyclovir (Famvir), or valacyclovir (Valtrex) to shorten the outbreak and prevent recurrences. Your life would be a lot more comfortable with them.

What may be of interest to you, your husband, and your daughters is that there is a vaccine being developed for herpes. http://www.gsk.com/research/research...metabolic.html.

The good news is that most cases of herpes have no recurrences after 5 years. Your body learns how to keep the virus (which lives in your system forever) in check.

When I thought I had it I read about putting hydrogen peroxide on them to help them heal faster. Go to Positivesingles.com create an account, and go to the blogs section, post about it and within a few hours you will be told what to do by people who have experiance.

does that help people who already have it, or is it only good for people who don't have it yet?

Typically if you're allowed to take a drug while pregnant, it's not harmful when breastfeeding, but STILL CHECK WITH YOUR DOC!

This sucks. In addition to recovering from giving birth now this. I know you have got to be busy with work and kids, but try to take time for the sitz baths. They're the best immediate relief you can give yourself now.

I will def. check with doc first about the meds.
And yeah, im also recovering from flu. LOL If i can get through all this alive, i know my husband can get through his lil tummy ache. UGH.

Thanks about the postivesingles thing. I forgot about that!

And about my daughter..not that i would touch myself then touch her (im so faithful to my hand sanitizer anyway) but family can catch genital herpes with just regualr skin contact? or is it just sexual contact that spreads genital herpes? because I know mouth to mouth contact can spread sores onthe mouth by a kiss....

It is transmissable through kissing (cold sores). Either type (oral or genital) can be caught in both places. If you don't have a cold sore, or sores in your mouth, I think you're all right though. I'm pretty sure you shed viruii from the sore sites.

you should get some cotton pads. and change them OFTEN. I had to start using cotton pads after my 3rd baby. i actually got a "diaper" rash from the always brand pads..OMG that SUCKED! After that, I bought some cloth ones (you have to wash them, but trust me, it's not that bad), and never went back. here's somes to some..

Get some Abreva and try that. You can get it at the drugstore, over by the Chapstick and other lip balms. It's for cold sores on the mouth, but like Scout said, herpes is herpes. It may help your sores heal much more quickly.

I am prone to cold sores when I don't take Lysine, but I hardly ever get them now that I take it. It's a supplement sold with all the other vitamins and supplements, and it really works at suppressing cold sores. You might try that.

Try Campho-Phenique, get it from the drugstore, if you're not too sensitive. It works the best of anything for cold sores. There are two kinds, one for blisters, & 1 for when it scabs. Take at least 1 garlic pill a day, Kyolic brand. Lysine is good, but it should be taken on an empty stomach to work best. Also, the supplement of the active ingredient in yogurt culture, I can't think of the name.

Valacyclovir is generally considered safe while breastfeeding.
