Angry customer dilemma arrrghhh

So it was suuuper slow tonight at work, until like 1:15. Really crappy. Then a bunch of people come in and all sit at the stage. At the bar, I talked to this one guy who was the sarge of a group of young cops that he was taking out. He was really nice and when I told him that I'd love to do a private dance for him after I got off stage, he was like, "Sure." So then I asked if he would come sit at the rail, and he said he never had before but he would for me. Then he handed me $20 and told me to take care of his guys while I was up on stage.

So I get up and dance, and he doesn't seem too fascinated but I'm glad that at least when I get off I've probably sold a dance. Then about halfway through my set, this other guy on the other side of the stage starts tipping me dollar after dollar, and he says, "I really want a dance with you."

So I tell him I have a prior commitmnet but after that, I will. So then when I get off stage, the first guy does not come out to the bar. I look at him for a moment and will him to turn around but he doesn't, and then the second guy comes up to me. I wanted to go get guy 1 from the rail but it was like my body wouldn't let me. I never go to the rail unless it's to tip. So I went and did three dances with the other guy, and then when I came back out, there was no one on stage so I ran over to the first guy and I was like, "Oh I'm really sorry. I didn't want to take you away from the show. I'll do the last two songs for the price of one, if you like." And he looked really cranky and said, "No I'll just hang out here." And all his cop buddies looked really cranky too, where before they were cracking jokes with me and smiling. Basically I think I pissed them off and I'm pretty upset at myself for doing that because it's just bad customer service. The second guy was by himself and was willing to wait. But, I'd had a bad night and I also knew he'd be a sure thing, so. I'm not sure what else I could have done.

i think you know you should have done the cop first, or at least asked if he minded if you did the single guy, but, money talks. and you probably made more... cheer up, move on, another day another dollar, just learn from your mistake.

Love it!

Don't worry about what he thinks, if he wants to be cranky, then let him, oh poor poor me,she didn't drop everything she was doing to come see me right now, boo hoo hoo. You need to go where there's a sure thing. I've had plenty of times where a customer came up and tipped me a $1 on stage, asked me if I'd come dance for them, I'd say sure with full intention of doing it but then wind up getting a better prospect and end up in VIP for a few hours. Now, I could've gone up and done 1 $10 dance or gone immediately to the VIP prospect, you know what you'd do in that case. Sorry but dancing IMO, is not all about a customer service industry, it's about fullfilling your financial needs and going to the customer that you KNOW will be a sure thing versus a maybe.

Don't feel bad about it at all, he's playing mind games on you to make you feel bad and it's obviously worked. Let it go, trust me, he'll get over it! You do what's best for you!!!! It's your time, it's your money you have to worry about!

Heh, I just wouldn't wanna get pulled over in his jurisdiction....
I'd grab my trumpet and I'd do a stripper sound, like the old Louis Armstrong, real raspy. And the people would go nuts! Then I knew that the sexual, sensual, guttural sound, that throbbing sound, is where it's at.

Ye famed guy POV....

The sergeant is ticked off because he lost face in front of his merry men. He's doing the alpha male in charge of subordinates bit - "take care of my guys". When you danced for the other guy first he lost status in front of his troops, and they in turn felt they lost status because their sergeant wasn't top of your pecking order.

Our sergeant was probably also into showing his merry men how cool he could be in the face of a naked lady - that's why he wasn't 'fascinated' when he sat at the tip rail. Had he been on his own he'd have paid more interest.

My money says he would have had a dance with you so he could nonchalantly go back to his 'boys' and say "it's nothing - seen it all before".

Your best bet would have been to go to the sergeant and ask whether he wanted his dance now or later as there was someone else also interested. Had you done that you'd have shown he was still top of the pecking order as you'd given him the choice of dance now or later - and one way or another you'd have got dances from both guys.

Thanks you all. I was really tired last night so it seemed like a big deal, but when I woke up this morning, I realized that like leogirl and chrissy said - I gotta go where the money is, and the money was with the other guy. Also, I just didn't want to grab him from the tip rail and annoy the dancer who was on stage. So alls well that ends well I suppose. Phil - thanks for the insight into the guy's mind though. I'll keep that in mind the next time something like this happens.

My pleasure - I've always thought that the dancers who earn best tend to have the best understanding of the male psyche - and tailor their approach accordingly.

It MIGHT have even been something else. I can't believe don't giving him his dance right away would drag down everyone's night like that... Unless they were all weiners.
