    Default going broke to strip?!

So I auditioned at the Cheetah last night and got in (yay!) but I have nothing to wear now! The outfits I bought prior to the audition are costume-y, and because it is an upscale gentlemen's club, I can't wear any of it. Not only that, but I have to buy a black gown too.

Geebus, getting started dancing is SO expensive!

    garter... $6
    shoes... $120
    lingerie... $100
    gown... $100
    permit... $350
being able to make better money than the $10/hr I'm making now... PRICELESS.
...at least that's what I'm telling myself.

On the upside, I think I'm going to LOVE the club (even though I didn't get to see it b/c I'm not 21 and can't be inside it w/out a permit). I was sitting out in front waiting for my bf to come pick me up, and like 10 diff guys asked me if I would be performing later that night...so that's a good sign. I'll update in about a week, after I've been there a bit.

Thanks for all the advice SW!

Wow! You spent that much before you even started? Damn girl! When I first started I bought:

-1 pair of beginner stripper shoes... $35
    -2 thongs... $15
    -1 outfit... $50

I think you shouldnt put yourself in debt buying dancewear until you actually start making money. Most gown clubs will let you slide for a couple days until you can afford to buy a gown, or you might be able to find a girl selling one at the club and it will be way cheaper...

Yeah, I wanted to be well equipped I mean, I'm not literally going broke, but the stuff is pricey...but i assume i'm paying for quality

I don't have to do walk out my first night (which is when you wear the gown of course) so I won't need one until my second shift. I'll def ask one of the girls though.

Yes I agree, $120 for shoes is way expensive. The female manager at the first club I worked at, scoffed at me for spending $55 for shoes...she claimed that she never paid over $40. Sometimes you gotta look around hard to find a sale. Sometimes $50 is okay to pay for shoes, but not $120.

sorry let me clarify...that's $120 for 2 pairs of $60 shoes, and $100 for two sets of $50 outfits.

Oh no, you arent paying for quality...you are paying for the fact that you dance and dancewear stores and companies charge ridiculous amounts of money for their stuff because we will pay it!! haha
Its kinda the same theory behind say buying a Louis Vuitton handbag for $2500, its no better than the Coach handbag for $300... practically the same thing just different name. One isnt going to "last" longer or do a better job holding you tic tacs...but people will buy it none the less so they can charge retarded amounts for it. Now obviously one is a major brand name but thats not my point.
You can go to Pacific sunwear and buy the same bathing suit that you buy at say Priscilla's and one will be $25 and the other will be $75...haha
    Just something to chew on...

Well said...but sometimes amount does correlate with quality. For example, a $300 hair weave and a $1000 hair weave are not the same thing. However I was kinda perplexed as to how 4 inches of plaid, pleated fabric is worth $35, and a tiny pair of metallic gold booty shorts goes for $40 at Wendy O's (!?)

Oh well, hell yeah when it comes to hair that rule definately aplies!!! I wouldnt go to Snip'n'clip for a haircut or color...I have never had extensions/weave but I do know that its fucking expensive as hell...well as long as its not plastic or something..Speaking of which, I didnt even know that they still used plastic hair for weave until the other day at work. A new girl started and asked if she could use my flatiron, without much thought I said "Sure go ahead"...I didnt look her up and down and inspect her damn head...later my friend goes "you might wanna go check your flatiron before you use it again" and I am like "huh?" She then proceeded to tell me that she has fake hair and it is plastic and will melt onto my shit...um, ok. I checked and it looked ok, but thats not cool. If you know you have Barbie doll hair in your head dont use someone elses straightener!!! Manners please..

And I feel ya on the price...haha $50 for something equivalent to dental floss with glitter...come on now really folks...

Shit you got me...I have no idea. I am apparentally clueless. Plastic hair. I know how that works, when I was young I got sick of my Barbie's hair so I tried to curl it. Negative. It melted. Poop, she was my favorite too!!!

    Sheeessshhh.

Buy online! All those stripper stores in ATL have about a 300% markup. Am I exagerrating? Not really.

The Cheetah is mainly a lingerie club. VS and Fredericks are your new best friends. Macy's has some pretty cute stuff too. Perimeter Mall has tons of stores with stripper dresses for $30 each. When I say stripper dresses, I mean stripper dresses. Because that's what high school girls wear.

Can you return the gown? You can get something off the sale rack at Dillard's for $20.

Not exactly. The stores have to buy that stuff wholesale, and pay their operating costs. Wholesale prices on decent stripper gear aren't as cheap as you think. And I've NEVER found a bikini at any bathing suit store that was suitable for stripping. They're always too big (as in too much coverage) and never fit me right. The stripper gear fits me better and stays in place better, and is sexier. I've also never seen a stripper bikini for $75

Candice, I agree with Scout. Start buying from Snaz75 for shoes and online stores on ebay for your stripper gear. It's much much much cheaper than buying in the stores.

Bridgette, you absolutely must visit the Atlanta stripper stores. Total rip offs. For a basic industry thong, $40. I would not pay $40 for a thong unless it worn by Madonna. This is why I recommend the mall for the OP.

    ::takes notes vigorously::

I actually haven't bought any gown yet, I was just estimating. But $30!? You can't beat that.

Hahaha! It's true about teens wearing stripper dresses to dances though...dont get me started...

Some things you've gotta get stripper quality, b/c it'll last, but other things, I'm totally all over the jr's deptmant for it. In a nude club, thongs from anywhere will work, and at 1-3$, who cares if it doesn't last forever? Way better then 15-30$, and you won't have the same damn thing. Also, check out discount stores (ross, tjmaxx, bealls outlet) for sexy, cheap lingerie. Even if you can only wear it to work 20 times, a 10$ bra is a bargin. At VS you can spend 50-60$ for a bra you can only wear 40-50 nights, so you're saving about 30$ by getting the bargins. Shoes, try on in a store, get them online. Snaz is great, and there's a StripperWeb discount (20% I think). Spending 1000$ before you even start isn't worth it, b/c you've gotta work your 1st couple of nights making it up! been there, done that.

Yep, have to admit... I spent way more to dance one night than I made in profit. Between the shoes, the outfits, the make-up and (tip-out) I didn't even break even. But I only danced one night. If I'd danced a whole week, I would have banked!

Sounds like me. I'm starting pretty soon, and I've been stocking up on things to wear. I work at Frederick's of Hollywood, so I get a 40% discount which helps. Last night I bought a bunch of stuff off Trashy.com (bargain section only, regular shit is WAY expensive) and Snaz75.com. I also suggest eBay for some cheap shoes. Do a search for the seller "AttractiveWear". They have good prices, and they ship pretty fast, too.

I think it's great to stock up and invest in quality stripper gear. It SHOWS when you're wearing not only well made stuff, but stuff that is actually stylish and flattering. So many girls wear stuff that is cheap and unflattering, and guys notice it. If you look cheap, you'll probably get treated as cheap.

Congrats on getting hired at a great club, candice!
