    Default salt cravings

Lately I have had the most intense cravings for salt. I ate 3 cans of soup broth last night and you should have seen my face in the morning! It was so puffy ...but I still want salt. Does anyone know why this could be? And I'm not PMSing....could I have a deficiency of some sort? What do you think?

It's an Australian (or at least not American) thing.

    It's chicken-flavoured salt.

Yummmmmm... I am a salt fiend. I like to eat limes with salt and also tomatoes lightly salted, too. I've been known to dip into the margarita salt every blue moon. When I was preggers it was worse: a whole jar of olives. When I asked my husband to go to the store to get more, he brought back a pregnancy test instead. Ok, gotta go- salt craving.

It could be blood pressure (not to be confused with blood sugar) related.

A girl at my club has blood pressure problems and from time to time you'll see her eating a packet of salt in the DR.

When I get outta work I almost always stop at mcdonalds... My mouth waters for the fries and for some coke... I think its because from dancing I have an unbalaced BP and BS.

how much water do you drink? it could be your electrolyte level. i don't know how it works, it could be that you don't drink enough water, because when i was drinking HEAPS of water, like 4-5L a day because I was training, my salt levels were really low and it was some weird cycle where it'd make me not like salt, and the thought of eating salt would make me sick, but then i'd get super thirsty, and dilute the levels more. it took a while for the doctor to be able to break the cycle, maybe go see your doctor.

It's fucking delicious. Not even a cultural thing. I'm an American in Australia and when I tasted it, I was in love. <3

Try using Mortons lite salt. It doesn't exactly taste like regular salt, but it does enough to keep you using it. It's made with potassium crystals or something like that, and a bit of real salt, so you get half as much as you think you are putting in your food.

I think this is enviromental, like if you were raised w/ salt shakers on the table and everything enhanced, you get addicted to it and immune to simpler tastes. I grew up on more natural foods, raw, and lots of veggies/friut plain, so I'm not too into salt... But I'm a little wierd, I wat so much whole food, and get lots of reactions (whole bell peppers, tomatoes, califlower, zuchini, just eat them whole, raw). I think, just try to indulge a little, just 1-2 times a week. And get a small fry or w/ev!
