Default Student risking 15 years of jail for cake-throwing

    Just thought i'd share this

OSLO, Norway Jul 28, 2006 (AP)— A student who last October threw a cake at Norway's new finance minister may face up to 15 years in prison for assaulting a government official, a state prosecutor said Friday.

On her first day in the job, Finance Minister Kristin Halvorsen, from the Socialist Left Party, was hit with the cake by a young man as she arrived at the ministry in Oslo.

The man approached her as a well-wisher who wanted to give her a cake. When she realized what was happening, Halvorsen turned away and the cake hit her in the back of the head. She was unharmed.

The man, whose name was withheld under Norwegian law but who was said to be 24 years old, has been charged with three counts preventing a government member from exercising authority, assault and "frightening and annoying" an official state prosecutor Marit Bakkevig said. The first count carries up to 15 years sentence.

The attacker, who has since quit his university studies, has told Norway's largest newspaper, VG, that his action was intended to "start a debate on the effectiveness of having a finance minister from a left-wing party."

Bakkevig said the trial has been slated for October.

Halvorsen, whose party is in a coalition government with Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg's Labor Party, would be appearing as a witness, the state prosecutor added.

Whatever it takes from keeping a f*cking IDIOT like that from getting any sort of degree... That was a stupid, stupid (and extremely rude and nasty) thing to do.
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.

huh. I'd love for someone to "cake" a couple politicians here in the US...ahem, especially the biggest official of all--

It sucks it was on her first day though. I have to say that I react to this differently a little because she's a woman and the attacker is a man, so I thought about what if the politician was a man-- honestly, I wouldn't care as much. Therefore, I decide not to be sexist, and then it doesn't bother me at all--- though, still, man or woman, being caked on the first day blows.

No matter how much politicians suck, you can't act like a douche-bag like that. That's not even acceptable in high school cafeterias.

What is interesting, is that unlike the common citizen, there are special laws designed to protect special people with special punishments.

Yeah but thats necesarry, what I was reacting to was the 15 years of jail he is risking, here in Norway the most severe punishment is 21 years of jail(with a law that lets you extend this in the case of high chances the person will do it again). 15 years here is more than some murder cases, and much higher than rape

The punishment does not seem to fit the crime.

Are you kidding me? Government types should always have stronger protections than rape and murder victims. I mean - who the fuck makes the laws around here?
