Default Fun use for all that money you have lying around...

Ever thought about becoming an Executive Producer?

I had a guy who was supposed to be finding funding for my short film while I was out of town. He "never got around to it." Now I'm due to shoot next week and I haven't got a penny of the $6000 I need. That's pocket change in movie terms, but it's a damn sight more than I have.

So, this is an investment opportunity for anyone who likes movies and independent filmmaking. The short is going to festivals. It's funny and I expect it to do well. We're all industry professionals; we know what we're doing. I've brought the budget down considerably with some great deals; I may even be able to do this with $5000.

My Executive Producer(s) will get big screen credit and props, and all festival winnings (money prizes) will pay back my investors first. You can be in the movie too, if you'd like. I need two strippers, one of whom speaks (I have a candidate for that role, but she isn't locked down, and obviously investors would get first dibs).

If you've got any part of that and you're interested in seeing the script and helping out, shoot me a message. This is probably ridiculous, but fuck, it never hurts to ask!

I don't have quite that much, but keep us abreast of your upcoming projects. It's something that I may be able to swing in the future.

Thanks, Glam, I will. I also want to reiterate that all the money doesn't have to come from one person. I have plenty of screen time for plenty of Executive Producers!

Thanks. I'm starting to freak out a little... I was not supposed to be producing this by myself, and now I'm scrambling for funding, insurance, locations, crew, permits, etc., and I've got 10 days! This is insane but I could do it if I knew I had the money. I work well under pressure.

And of course, in addition to producing, I'm also trying to direct and cast the damn thing... argh. I have a reading with three actors tomorrow night, including (hopefully) my two leads. I found a real babe for the female lead, and she's played a stripper before so she says she can pole dance. We'll see, but I'm hopeful!

It will be a really terrific short if I can get the funding. Lots of experienced people and produced screenwriters love the script, and I really like my cast so far. I'm petrified that it might all fall apart because this guy didn't bother to tell me he wasn't seeking funding after he told me he would. And I need to shoot now, because everyone goes out of town for Christmas and then it's pilot season and they'll all be busy. So here's me pulling out my hair!

G-d damn, I just made some calls and talked to people, and I think I'm fully cast. It's a great cast, too. My lead actor is hilarious, my lead actress is fucking phenomenally beautiful with an outrageously sexy accent, and my other characters have been cast with experienced actors who have exactly the look that I wanted. I can't believe all these people are willing to pull these overnights for FREE for me!

I just need a few thou to make it happen... <puppy dog eyes>

G-d, I am so damn excited about this cast!! Working with the actors is always my favorite part of directing. I love what they do, and it's so much fun to see the words I wrote on my computer just step off the page and take on life!

I can't promise a return on investment, but any festival winnings would pay back my investors first. I will say that I'm going to get it in as many festivals as I possibly can, and with my cast and crew and a great script, we expect to do well.

I've shown the script to several people who read and write scripts for a living, and they love this one. I can email it to anyone who's thinking of investing.

well, maybe it's just semantics, but I don't really consider it an "investment opportunity" if the best case scenario is getting your money back.

    Good luck though.

Try looking online at an Angel Investor site. Just google the words Angel Investor and pages of individuals and groups who specialize in coming to artists' rescue will be listed. A friend of mine has been working with one Angel for about ten years now on various projects and his Angel even covers living expenses. My friend's a writer/director. Good Luck, girl.
