Sorry to hear about your woes! I've been there with the social anxiety and skin problems, one sure exasperates the other. It's a very shitty cycle. Getting over depression requires getting out of the hole you're in, out of the house, but who wants to leave the house when you're breaking out and feel like everyone is staring at your zit. Damn that brings a tear to my eye just thinking of how badly that used to suck! As for the acne, there really is a CURE, not just maintenence and management. The cure is accutane, it was the best damn thing I've done for myself. I've been 100% clear for months, ever since my course, and I had the on again off again cystic breakouts like you are having. But before you can take accutane, you've got to get your head on straight. That stuff can make depression worse, and would be dangerous to start until you are feeling better. I only mention it now, because it is a light at the end of the tunnel. One day, you'll be clear for good and let me tell you that in itself makes a HUGE difference in your anxiety levels. You will feel so much better then.

As for now, they always say that chin breakouts are hormone related. Likely its your hormones being out of whack that is causing both the depression and breakouts. It may or may not be directly caused by wellbutrin, but by the mood swing wellbutrin(or any antidepressant) is causing in your body. It should be a temporary state that your body is going through, and will work it self out and be back to normal over time. All you can do is maintain, take care of yourself, follow your derms advice, all that stuff you already know.

I do love my taz! I've been on it almost a year, went from cystic yucky crap skin (probably some of the worst you'd have seen on a working dancer) to quite lovely not so bad skin.

Fades red marks, yes. In time. 4-6 months for noticeable fading (beyond the fading that would normally occur in that time).

    However:

I asked my derm about accutane, to which he say's 'no way', because my skin is fine aside from the cystic pimples.
What else is Accutane for, than cystic acne??

scarlett- How long did it take for you to notice any real improvment in your skin? And how long until the cystic pimples stopped?

I can handle my skin being a bit red, dry, and irritated but the cystic pimples I've been getting since I've been on the Taz, they're worse than any I got before I started it.
I feel like crying each time I feel a new one coming up under my skin because they just can't be stopped, and they leave those ugly marks. Luckily I don't get pit scarring. Then I'd really freak out because I don't think you can get rid of those very easily.

I really want to quit using the taz but I'm already one month into using it so I figure another month won't kill me....Luckily I don't have anywhere special to go anytime soon. Guess I'll just be hanging out in my apt. a lot until they subside a bit....

Zabrina- I'm going to make another appt. with my derm this week and talk to him more about the accutane. He was pretty against me going on it. He said it's only for very severe cases and that the side effects are terrible. I mean the side effects can't be much worse than the one's I'm having now. Dry mouth from the anti-biotics, horrible breakouts, and peeling skin.
I mean how much worse can it get?
What are the most common physical side effects from accutane?
Is the risk for depression that high? If so then that's out of the question. Otherwise I don't see why I can't just give it a try instead of sitting in my appt. suffering for the next few months....loathing my skin.

Sorry if I'm not making much sense but I took an ambien to get to sleep then came to stripperweb right before heading to bed and saw your responses...so sorry if I sound a bit off.

Okay, I'm off to bed. If anyone else has anything to add to this thread please do. You guys have given me way better advice than my freaking derm has.

Accutane is also no bueno if you are already depressed, as it has been linked to depression and suicide in the last few years.

It's common for skin problems to get worse before they get better.

As for your depression, have you thought of taking something like provigil? My friend takes it for her depression (it's actually for narcoleptics), and it's helped her.

microdermabrasian can be a very effective treatment for all sorts of acne. my skin has improved very signficantly since having these treatments.

About 3-4 months for me, I think. A little bit of improvement almost immediately, though.

I know TTO smells like hell, but you don't have to sleep with it. Leave it on your face for 30 minutes...then wash it off.

Acupunture is a good suggestion too. I'm going to get that done as soon as i'm done with the Accutane. From what I read on it, you can treat alot of things like hormornal acne, pms cramps, etc. http://www.acupuncturepei.com/what-d...ure-treat.html

Watch what you're eating and see what's breaking you out. Coffee(God, I miss it ) everyday makes me breakout to cysts. Peanut butter too.

Stick to the Taz. I've read lots of good things about it! You have to be patient for it though and at first it may give you initial breakout.

I read that it also lessens the appearance of scars and fades red marks quickly.

Don't give up. I know how you feel.

I did two courses of Accutane about two years apart (I just finished my second in September) and both times I had symptoms of depression that I had never experienced before, not severe but just the feeling that something wasn't quite right inside my head. I would say that if your derm knows about your depression that would be the reason he won't presribe it.

My derm once prescribed a special mixture of glycolic acid toner (Neostrata) and Clindamycin that they made in the pharmacy and it worked well because it had both and exfoliant and antibiotics. There are also commercially prepared creams that have both.

Spiro is an anti-androgen. If you notice that your breakouts are related to your menstrual cycle it can be very helpful. There's also some spiro in Yasmin (the BC pill) but I can't take anything with estradiol in it. It makes me really depressed.

Spiro takes a while to kick in (2-3 months) but it worked for me...

^^^ Corsica, are you sure those are cysts? Sounds more like swollen lymph nodes to me. If you have an infection somewhere, it drains to your lymph nodes, and they swell with all the pus that's draining out of the infection. You've got lymph nodes just behind your ears. My ear piercings used to get infected all the time and my lymph nodes there were often swollen, but it could be an infection anywhere in your head/neck area.

    I'm pretty sure because

    a) The size of your lymph nodes are about the size of your fingernails normally, and will swell bigger. Mine aren't close to that size, more like Big For a Zit syndrome.
b.) The bumps aren't in my neck, where the nearest nodes would be, but behind my earlobe. It's been oily back there too.

EDIT:, you might be right Yekh, but also read you can get swollen lymph nodes when you have a cold or flu. Since I have chronic sinus issues, Im not suprised.
