Congratulations! I'm moving there next year when I marry my Cali boy. How difficult was it for you? I hear varying reports about how much of a pain in the arse immigration is.

It was relatively easy. Just backround info, medical, criminal checks..yadayada.
Once married, you can apply through a DCF (direct consular filing). It has taken us 10 weeks from Amsterdam, word is 5 weeks in Sydney and 3 to 4 months in London. The US consulate in London will be able to give you more information. Good luck! It is nowhere near as scary as it sounds.

Contrats misha!!! I'm so glad you're moving to the states. Califorrnia is so beautiful. You'll love it. Make sure you take a trip to Big Sur& Monteray bay sometime. It's breathtaking there.
And you can always take a trip up to Santa Cruz or San Fran. It's only like 6 or 7 hours away.

I've always dreamed of going to Europe. Especially Amsterdam & london. Don't know if I would want to live there though. But one of my things to do before I die is to travel Europe.

Cograts again. I hope your move is easy and safe

I've seen Monteray, and i liked very much We did (as you know) want to move to San Francisco, but we haven't the funds right now LA is quite a bit cheaper!

Make sure you add Barcelona to your must see list. In my opinion, and many travellers that i've met, it is the most amazing city in all of Europe. You'll love it. Just amazing

You should visit Chicago eventually Misha! In the summer there is so much to do here, and it's really a beautiful city. I think you would like it here.

I wanted to move back to San Fran too, but that is being put on hold for about one more year. Because as you said it's so expensive to live there and there is no way I would move there without at least 5,000 saved. I will get back there eventually though. But for now I'm going to try to enjoy Chicago. Well, after the winter's over that is......

I'm going to be heading out west in early Sept. for Burning Man. You and your husband should consider going. I know it's something you would adore.

Chicago is beautiful indeed! But take my advice and wait, wait until early summer. The weather here (winter and many summers) is the city's one drawback.

I got my green card in March.

Gaining your US residency through marriage is easy. There is a ton of paper work but as long as you and your hubby are clean the whole process should be very straight forward.

If you need help apartment hunting in Hollywood, that's my community! We're one of the few parts of L.A. that actually has a community. My boyfriend and I walk almost everywhere, we see a lot of our neighbors frequently, the guys at the market know us, we have our local Farmer's Market routine... it's pleasant here. Y'all know how much I hate L.A. but I do like my little neighborhood!

it sucks that for a lot of people the only way to immegrate is to marry into the country. i want to immegrate to either the USA, OZ or NZ but i dont want to marry someone just to do so.

ideally, id like to marry someone and their citizenship is a bonus not the other way round. but then i never ask for the easy route...

We didn't want to split up, and we can't afford to travel forever We tried Australia but it wasn't working for us. We eventually want to have a place in both countries.
