Does anybody know someone with Adult Aspergers?
How do you deal with it? What's the proper way to explain things to them without them being hurt? Do you treat them more special? Less?

This is your BF's bro, nay? In my experience, they appreciate normal treatment the most.

my roommate's sister has it. she's 28. she lives a fairly normal life but overanalyzes everything. and i mean EVERYTHING. my roommate got married last month and her sister was maid of honor, and demanded to wear pants to the wedding so as not to play into the gender stereotyping. my roommate had to convince her to wear a dress, but she wore a different dress than all the other bridesmaids. roommate says the sister wants to stand out yet be treated normally. *usually* they are very bright individuals so explaining something to them shoudl be fairly easy, dont overcomplicate things by thinking you need to be slower or something. just be normal, as you would be with anyone else.
Love it!

both of my younger brothers have Aspergers. And my best advice? Don't treat him any different. They get that from people they don't know, from their loved ones, they just want to be "normal". Be patient though.

One of my regulars has aspergers...a mild case though from what he says. He says he has problems dealing with everyday social situations that the "normal" person wouldnt even think about. I asked him to explain or give me an example once and he said basically the best he could tell me was this: When in conversation (social type setting) has a difficult time figuring out what he should do or say, like in his mind it makes no sense. To me I dont really fully understand it because that doesnt happen to me, I know what is appropriate in social settings, now whether I act on it is another story! haha. But yeah both his kids have aspergers as well, his son has it BAD and his daughter is more like him-not so much. His son always says and does very innapropriate things, it almost seems without thinking before he speaks like a 5 year does. My understanding is that it is kinda like having the social comprehension of a young child..like "hey youre really ugly" or "wow youre fat"...they dont "get" why you shouldnt say and do certain things. Obviously my customer isnt like that and he understands social graces but according to him it doesnt make things any less confusing...but he also has a mild case. His son on the other hand is pretty off the wall sometimes. Apparentally during one of his "home visits" from his mental health evaluator, he was sitting next to her on the bed talking and he put his hand on her leg and asked if thats how her husband touches her. Kinda creepy coming from a 13 yr old kid with the mentality of a 10 yr old, but its not his fault. Anyway that was my very long 2 cents..
