    Default Caffine overdose?

Yesturday, on a whim, I changed my usual "Non-fat, tall latte" order to a "No-foam, non-fat, tall latte." Later in the day, after a few more office coffees that morning, I yelled (over e-mail) at two friends. While I'm not saying I didn't have reasons--work and social life have been stressful lately--but my extreme reaction puzzled me. Last night, as I calmed down with a great dinner and a glass of red wine, I reviewed the day's events. The only change in my routine was the different coffee!

Is it possible the non-foam version of a latte zapped me with just enough extra caffine to cause my emotions to flare?

I already know that I cannot handle caffine drinks the way I did in my 20s. These days, I cut them off before noon or face becoming an agitated ninny who needs to take high-speed strolls around the neighborhood every hour or so.

I have this theory that you get addicted to the specific chemicals in your favorite Starbucks drink. A friend of mine couldn't his special coffee one morning and he became violently ill. I don't drink Starbucks, but I notice my friends who do get really cranky and impatient if they can't get it.

I'm convinced they put something addictive besides caffeine in Starbucks coffee.

If I were you I would attempt to wean yourself off the coffee and go for other warm drinks... personally I hardly drink any coffee at all compared to what I used to, because I noticed the effects it was having on me... now I love my caffeine free flavoured teas (raspberry, cinnamon, etc) as well as occasionally hot chocolate or cider.... finding an alternative is not only better for your temper, but better for you from a health standpoint

No-foam just means less air (which gives it more milk), but it won't change the number of shots they put in the latte.

^^She's right. You just had less air in your latte. (Lattes shouldn't have much any way.)

When you have too much caffeine, you get tremors in your hands (well, limbs mostly) and feel sick to your stomach. But first you'll notice the shakiness. It is NOT fun.

    I know.

But my partner extracted caffeine from 100 teabags once and ate it...

    So it can still happen.

In retrospect I have to admit the cofffee wasn't to blame. I was just upset and lashed out at easy targets. Fortunately, these friends take my black moods in stride.

As for weaning off the bean... Ummm, no. Not gonna happen. However, I can, and have in the past, reduced my intake to one real cofffee in the morning. Maybe time to get back to that.

I try and limit myself to two coffees a day. My current job does not support drinking coffee, and there are only two places to get it near by. One is a Starbucks with automatons, and the other is a bagel shop that makes traditional style bagels. I hit the bagel shop when I can, but as they are a bakery etc, they do not always keep the best hours. I think they get a kick out of someone that just wants a plain bagel with cream cheese and coffee. Man I want to go there now dammit.... they make real bagels too. You know they were boiled as part of the process.

Stress will make you lash out, get some more yoga or training in, that always helped me.

When I was a barista, I used to get sick all the time. I'd drink various espresso drinks (because I could) and absorb even more caffeine through my skin (I was always messy with the grounds) and just be buzzed out by quitting time. Ugh.
I stopped drinking coffee for a long time afterwards. But now I'm back to six-shot iced Americanos. YUM!

Hell yes. And I've been living in Chicago nearly 20 years now. We're currently recording the coldest winter temps in 30 years here.

In another thread I mentioned the unexpected mental lift I got from a 10-minute session in a tanning booth. Been a number of weeks since I've been back. Apparently it's time to go get zapped.

Also more than 16oz (or 2 cups) of coffee a day is bad for your metabolism. It screws up when its suppose to work at the right times it doesnt work as well.

Also there is the caffiene crash a few hours or shorter after having coffee you crash a little or alot.

Coffee at night is bad (3-4 hours before bedtime) because well you cant sleep properly eventhough you may be tired enough to sleep.

That's a great fix! The sun/uv rays really do boost moods. I also have cd's of ocean sounds, and sea scented candles. Those kind of things can help lots, and they aren't bad for your skin

Ever notice some people thrive in summer, and others in winter?

2 cups of drip brewed coffee is about equal to three shots of espresso. Espresso actually has less caffeine than coffee, but because it is so concentrated, is absorbed into the blood stream quicker. Which is why most people think it is stronger.

I know it suppose to speed up the metabolism but how do you think it is bad for your metabolism? I drink energy drinks before working out to increase my endurance. And some days when I feel awful it pulls me through, especially on those 16 hours days.
