    Default Collecting Medicare?

I got my birth control for $29.95 (normally $300) on medicare and my appointment was $95.

I stand to receive $87 from Medicare for the visit... that's what the doctor told me.

How do I collect? Do I go to the office with the bill? Do I mail it in?

o.o I've never done this before.

And SWEET.. I got THREE YEARS (Implanon) of birth control for $37.95!

Well one way: Go to the Medicare office grab a form, fill it out, go to the counter with Medicare card, and get cash back on the spot, or have it deposited into your bank account. You can also mail in this stuff if you'd rather not go to the office. Just watch the que, they can get quite long/slow depending on the day of the week etc. I was usually in and out in 10 minutes though.

It's nice not to have to pay through the roof for medical care. May not always be great care but sure beat a $700 trip to the ER.

Thanks! The office is just in the city and I can get there for $2.60. Woo, I'll spend that on the damn phone bill I racked up! I'll just make sure to go at 10am.

Yeah avoid the lunch hour, everyone tries to do Medicare stuff then, and because it's Australia, at least 1/2 the office is out to lunch. Actually a lot of government organizations will have there lunch hours posted. I know DIMA (or whatever they call themselves now) in the CBD of Melbourne wa horrible between 12pm and 2. Once I read the sign I hightailed it out of there.

just a note to other DD readers that Australian Medicare bears very little resemblance to American Medicare (which is a senior citizen's program) - Australian Medicare seems to be similar to Medicaid programs run by the individual US states.

Woohoo! I went in a filled a claims form... they promptly threw it out and said "All you need is your card and receipt."

Within five minutes I had $89! Sweet, for a $95 doctor visit.

I agree! I wish I could get Medicare. I once broke my baby toe and it cost me $1200.
