    Default I ruined my hair!!

OK...first before everyone says it at once...I would have had it done professionally but I cant afford it right now.

I wanted to go back to blonde so I used Clairol Maxi-blonde kit. Now its VERY brassy and so broken I followed the directions, but I still killed it.Its falling out in handfuls(at least it was..I'm afraid to brush it anymore). My hair is a bizzare shade of extremely light yellow orange.

This SUCKS. I look like shit...and I want to cry.

^^^ I agree. Even though your hair is really damaged, they should be able to at least put a toner on to make it less brassy until it is healthy enough to color it again. Until then, use a lot of deep conditioning/ repairing treatments.

slather it in olive oil..mayo will work too. it needs moisture BAD.

also, see if you can get some purple shampoo..it's made to take out brassyiness.. i use one when my red undertones try to come out into my bleach blonde... here's some tips...

thanks summer..going back out in a bit to get deep conditioner...maybe toner will help..I'm desparate

I found this on that site ou posted summer:Q : I have naturally blonde hair but for 6 months have been dyeing it dark brown. I wanted to go back to blonde so bought a lightening kit which should have made it go dark blonde. I used it on Friday night and my hair went ginger so yesterday I bought a blonde permanent dye and put that on and now its gone bloody bright orange. Its a white blonde at the roots (where my natural colour was coming through), then bright orange all over and on the ends it's a darker colour, I look like a punk. Should I get another blonde dye and put that over the top today or do you think it will just make the orange worse?? Really dont know what to do....HEEELLLLLLLLLLLLP

A's : I did the same to my hair a while ago, but dyed it again with an ash blonde colour and it looks fine now.Just make sure you use a cool shade of dye like ash blonde rather than a warm shade like golden blonde.

I've also done this. Just make sure you dye over it with a darker colour. Ash blonde like has been said is a good idea. When I did it I dyed over it with brown and it turned out fine.

Thats EXACTLY what mine looks like..maybe I shoud get an ash blonde.

I know I've done this before a long time ago(I know..I'm an idiot)..and I think I "fixed" it(didnt help the damage...but at least I didnt look like a fraggle) with a darker color

I had the same problem as you when I first went blonde from dark brown a couple years ago. I got mine done in a salon, but it still turned out a brassy orangish color. I used tons of deep conditioner for a week or 2, and then used hair dye to color it myself. I used an ash blonde, it it turned out the color I wanted. Once I discovered the Clairol Maxi I started using that and it worked for me. The hard part was getting it the color I wanted in the first place- after that it was easy to keep it that color.

Maybe for work you could wear your hair up and out of your face so attention will be on your face and not on your hair until you get it fixed.

If it makes you feel any better, when my hair was ass length and platinum blonde I tried to go to a darker shade of blonde and it turned all of it army camo green.

Just remember, it's just hair, there's always a way to work around it until you can fix it.

Thanks all..thankfully the club I'm going to be at for the next week and a half is a dive bar where nobody will care about my hair color. But I'm still going to do what I can to fix it ...because dammit..I'LL still care!!!

Alright, what you need to do is get a spray bottle and mix conditioner with a bit of water in it.... when you shower, make sure to use a deep conditioner... when you are then brushing your hair out to style it, spray the conditioner/water spray on, not too much, but enough to get it into your hair, allows the conditioner to penetrate your hair even further... my mother's a hair dresser so I grew up as the the girl with all the tips for her friends lol, any other questions, I'm a message away.... it won't be THAT long before you can get it redyed (noticed I said 'get it' not do it yourself sorry had to say it)... so get out there and earn yourself the money to do it girl

Go to Sally Beauty or a similar store, and shell out 99 cents plus tax for a little thing of Red-Gold Remover. Mix this into a small jar of mayonnaise. Rub the mix into your hair, wrap it up, and let it sit for 15 minutes or so, and then gently wash it. That should help.

Cholesterol. It's thick and greasy and does wonders for hair. You can usually find it in the ethnic hair section of walmart, target, walgreen's etc. When I want a really deep condition, I'll really glop it on after wetting my hair down then cover it up with a shower cap. I'll then go about doing my housekeeping and whatnot around the house. At the end of the days, rinse really well....it's so thick that you may need to wash your hair again in the morning. I probably don't need to mention, do this on a day when you don't need to leave the house.

I screwed my hair up too, after i NEVER thought i would do it. It was breaking at the bleached part near my scalp. After i shampoo, i spray all over my damp hair Infusium 23 leave in treatment, and leave it in until the next wash.

Moisture is important, but your hair is in dire need of protein. Decolorizers destroy protein in the hair so use a leave-in protein rich treatment. Mayo and heavy oils will not penatrate the hair shaft to deliver the protein you need.

If your going to attempt to fix it yourself (which I think you shouldn't do, but hey... I've been broke and desperate before, too) use a blue based, demi permanent blonde. It should neutralize the orange-ish tones and leave you with a darker toned blonde.

It's demi so it will mellow and fade with every shampoo, it will also be gentle and moisturizing to the hair unlike a permanent haircolor. Go to Sally's or another quasi-professional store and ask for blue based blondes. Most ash shades have a green base to the them and this will not neutralize the unwanted tones in your hair. Apply it to damp hair and literally watch it change color. Within 10 minutes (probaly 3-5 for your hair) you'll get to a more natural tone.

Sorry to hear this happened. You should probably wait a little bit before trying to do any hair color correction work.
Another product that is very good for damaged hair,is a shine and anti-frizz serum. They have a good selection at Sally's.Some of them are even blue/purple tinted to neutralize brassiness. It seals the cuticle, makes hair stronger, silkier and shinier. It doesn't have any alcohol in it,so it won't dry your hair out,it's very safe.

Deep conditioner is your best friend. I bleach my hair and then dye it crazy colors a lot, so it really takes a pounding.

Try Queen Helene Super Cholesterol deep conditioning cream, at Sally Beauty Supply. It's made for really damaged hair. Put it on your hair, cover it, and leave it for a half hour or so. Makes your hair super-soft.

When I messed up my hair and it was braking off in handfulls, I wore my hair in a bun, ponytail, or braid.

i've had this kinda problem before...eat time i've bleached my hair it comes out brassy and falls out ALOT, i've always had to cut it real short afterwards and use super intense moister shampoo/condidtioner (Ion..found in sallys beauty suppy is my fav..smells like caramel). like some of the other girls said, wear it up in the meantime and e gentle with it.

I would use Aphogee protein reconstructor and moisturizer for the damage. This stuff stinks but is the best you can buy. You can get it at Sally's. Also pick up some Color corrector in Red/Gold, it will be this bluish purple stuff, and will correct red/gold brassiness while coloring. Mix this with your conditioner to tone without peroxide or color damage. Try olive oil as a leave in instead of the shine or heat protect serums out there (they are loaded with silicones and some with alcohol, which seriously mucks up your hair), a few drops will work wonders without leaving your hair feeling oily. (I use Ojon treatment which is a nut oil, and i can no longer stand the sticky feeling of silicone based treatments. Ojon is wonderful, but very expensive, and I have discovered if I run out Olive Oil works just as well until I can get to the salon to buy my Ojon.)

    Good Luck

Ohhhh I just tried some of this earlier today. I only left it on for about a half hour, and I didn't cover my hair with anything- I just put it up with a clip, and when I rinsed it out and dried it, my hair was sooooo soft. I'm officially addicted... lol.... and it's cheap too! I think it was only $3 or $4- much cheaper than my regular deep conditioning treatment, and it worked sooo much better!
