Default Melonie - BA question about Dr. Johnson!

    Hi Melonie!

Just had a couple of questions for you!

First, with Dr. Johnson, did you have implants put in by another doctor before you went to Dr. Johnson in Houston? I have implants (over the muscle) that were put in through an incision underneath the breasts and I would like to go a little bit bigger and go to Dr. Johnson, having them put in through the belly button. However, I am afraid that if I go bigger, the old scars underneath my breasts might "move up" with bigger implants put in - does that make sense? Did you have any experience with that?

Also, what is the recovery time/healing factors by having the TUBA procedure? I would think it would be less recovery time, but was just concerned about the amount of downtime you had before being able to go back to dancing.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I would really think twice about going to Dr. Johnson. since he had his license to practice medicine revoked by the state of Texas on August 25th of this year. Here is the text of the decision:

    Action Date: 08/25/2006
Description: ON AUGUST 25, 2006, THE BOARD AND DR. JOHNSON ENTERED INTO AN AGREED ORDER ACCEPTING THE VOLUNTARY SURRENDER OF DR. JOHNSON'S MEDICAL LICENSE. THE ACTION WAS BASED ON DR. JOHNSON'S HEALTH ISSUES THAT ARE IMPACTING HIS ABILITY TO SAFELY PRACTICE MEDICINE. DR. JOHNSON'S CONDITION APPEARS TO BE PERMANENT AND PROGRESSIVE, BUT IN THE EVENT THIS IS DETERMINED NOT TO BE SO, DR. JOHNSON MAY PETITION THE BOARD FOR RE-LICENSURE, SUBJECT TO HIS DEMONSTRATING TO THE BOARD HE IS SAFE AND COMPETENT TO PRACTICE MEDICINE AND THAT HE MEETS ALL OTHER REQUIREMENTS FOR RE-LICENSURE.

You can run a search for yourself here:

Ladies, you really need to research your doctors before you get on their operating table, unless you want a life of pain, expensive revisions, and possibly permanent disfiguration. This is how it's done:

Dr. Johnson had been planning to retire anyhow for a few years now - he also had some problems which I won't elaborate on. Obviously Dr. Johnson's practice included lots of girls who wanted really huge breast implants over the years, which was his specialty (i'm talking about 1500-2000-2500+ cc) - and his practice was massively disrupted by the new FDA implant rules passed a couple of years ago. Apparently he has accepted a deal to give up his MD license and quietly retire - and I for one miss him. In fairness to Dr. Johnson, you'll note that he AGREED to VOLUNTARILY surrender his MD license, it was NOT revoked.

However, there are lots of other, younger plastic surgeons in Texas, though, who will have plenty of experience with implants up to 800cc ... which are now the biggest implants obtainable with an FDA approval anyhow (which works fine for most girls, but doesn't help me at all personally considering that my implants are 3750cc and none of the younger doctors want to even think about implants that big).

As to your personal situation of having implants originally put in using a 'breast fold' incision, and wanting to have them replaced with larger implants, my recommendation would be to re-use the exact same incision. In this way the surgeon can 'stretch' the breast skin appropriately to make sure that the incision stays where it belongs, the nipples stay where they belong, no new scars will be created in other areas, and any internal scar tissue that has formed around your existing implants can be removed so that it won't cause your breasts to stretch non-uniformly because scar tissue is thicker in some spots and thinner in other spots.

TUBA is a reasonably good technique for a first time boob job. The weak link of TUBA of course is the lack of direct access to the inside of the breast, having to create the breast pockets and position the implants while working through an incision located two feet away at the belly button etc. In a situation where a girl already has implants that have to be removed before new ones can be put in, where those existing implants may have stimulated the growth of internal scar tissue etc., these negatives of TUBA far outweigh the positives.

Unfortunately, Melonie, Dr. Johnson had his license revoked more than once over the years, and for that to happen there has to have been some serious negligence on his part. He was also not certified by either the American Board of Medical Specialties in Cosmetic Surgery nor the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
