Default Pole monkeys, I need help!

My rib is currently fractured, so I'm trying to learn some new moves that won't stress my ribs. I'm working on this one, and though it kind of looks OK, I feel I'm doing it all wrong.

I've got all my weight hanging off my boot- is this right? It feels weird to me, I've only just started wearing boots, and used to be quite the purist about not 'cheating', lol. But boots certainly make things easier!

How much weight are the hands supposed to hold? I can;t get them to take any, really. They're just for stability. Does holding weight in that position come with time?

Any advice on improving it at all welcomed! I do know that I need to make it faster and more fluid, lol.

Ok thanks. Here's the vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BWc2ilpwfI

This is my fav move to do lol...

Your hands have to take alot of the weight, its not a good one for your ribs really... your best bet is to avoid the pole for everything other then simple spins till your rib is better.

The way I do that one is go upside down, reach behind you grap the pole behind your back and fall into it hooking the front of your foot on the pole and arching.. I cant explain it lol. I can post a video on Sunday for you though but im sure Alena will have me beat to it by then ahaha..

I guess you could do it using your hands just as stability... i'll try a few things tonight while doing private shows n see if I can figure out a way for you to do it.

It looks to me like you've got it you just need to keep doing it for the fluidity. It looks like, if you're gripping enough with your boot, you are using your arms for support less. You would use your arms more if you weren't using the boots to help grip.

when i do that move my weight is pretty evenly spread between my foot and my arms. you can use your arms to arch your body away from the pole when you do it which will help shift some of that weight. you're trick looks great though and i like the way you do it now... however im with the other girls on not doing pole tricks with an injured rib. itll just make it take longer to heal.

I'm just a pole-monkey voyeur, but it looks pretty cool to me. I like the song too, heh.

That my dear is a Bow and Arrow. It is a bit more gentle on the torso, but you should still be careful with a fracture...especially on the ribs, much easier to re-injure!

Have you checked my gallery for other ones that do not incorporate the torso?

    You know the addy!!! haha!

You tend to do more sensual moves on the pole....

view this one, and see if you can find another one that you can do!!

we call that one the falling star where im from.
i go into it differently than u do in the clip.
i start off in the back crucifix - lean back and then put my foot behind the pole. u seem to put the foot back before leaning back.
i might give your way a try though and see which is easier.

Good God, you did that with a fractured rib? That's impressive...

There's a lot of tricks that take a while to get down so you are satisfied with them, but you sure as hell have the right start! I'm still amazed you can do it at all, though not surprised at all that you have the required spirit.

I like hanging from my ankles and grabbing the pole while arching upside down w/ my hands....I pulled a peck*sp* muscle and it doesnt seem to bother it....

the only thing was to get really used to/confident with just hanging by the ankles....
I'd grab my trumpet and I'd do a stripper sound, like the old Louis Armstrong, real raspy. And the people would go nuts! Then I knew that the sexual, sensual, guttural sound, that throbbing sound, is where it's at.

for some reason I have a hard time getting a good grip behind me and when I do, I always crush a thumb between the pole and my tailbone... ow!

There you go, that's very wise...

I'm not one for listening to doctors, they always take the conservative line. But sometimes they are correct--like not straining a fractured rib, for instance. Be patient, you know damned well you are not the type to let this hold you back for long.

I don't know anything about your fractured rib... but about the move itself:

I do it from the lay back... then grab on with my hands, then "drop" into it (cos my bum is in the way of where my hands should be)
You need to get your shoulder to lean against the pole. If you like you can take one hand off and hold on behind your head to get a lot more of an arch on your back.

this was waay back in may, I don't have much lean on it in this pic.
