Well sir, I'm afraid it's not going to get better. If you're running windows XP with service pack 2, then it requires 244 megs of ram after boot with nothing else... this is due to the security console and other additions...
your system has 240 megs of ram (256 but 16 of it is dedicated for your video) so since you have 240 megs of physical ram, anything needed above that runs off your swap.
(explanation for onlookers)
Think of RAM like your short term memory. When you remember things in your short term, it's very vivid, very clear, very fast, easy to re-remember.
Think of your hard drive like your long term memory. Your childhood memories are there but it takes longer to remember them as clearly...
Now, if you where to sit and think about a childhood memory long enough (long term memory like a hard drive), well you'd remember it pretty clearly.... And once you remember it, it sits in your short term memory (RAM) for a while till you forget it again and it get's stored back in your long term memory (Hard drive)
You're problem, Sir, is you're out of short term memory, everything is operating on the slower reacting hard drive, which is why it's choppy. Because the hard drive responds much slower than the ram. (Hard drive has moving parts, ram is all electric)
Solution:
If you upgrade the ram, to say 512 megs (which will leave you with 496 after video) you'll notice an incredible improvement for cheap. If you give me the make and model of your laptop I'll link you to some online shops and ram.
So in short
you have 240 megs of ram
Your system is using 380+
380 - RAM NEEDED
- 240 - RAM
---------------
140 RAM Running off the HARD DRIVE (page file) MUCH SLOWER.
The problem wasn't caused by IE7 bro, it was caused, most likely, cause IE7 needs Service Pack 2 which ups the requirements from 128 RAM to 256 RAM (512 recommended)
Hope this makes sense. Mast.

Personally I perfer to run Firefox as my main broswer with the "open window in IE" option just in case I come across a website that isn't Firefox capatabile (sp?).... which there still is alot of "out there".... at the same time... you have to give it to Firefox for "inspiring" the tabs of IE7 huh?![]()
