    Default Please help motivate me!

I gained about 7 pounds of fat over the summer while on prednisone, and while my weight has stabilized, I can't seem to motivate myself into the gym to lose it. No matter how much I tell myself, "Oh, you could lose that in a couple months," I end up in the gym or on a good nutrition plan for a week or two and then fall off the wagon. My work is incredibly busy this time of year and that doesn't help.

What are some things you do to kick your own ass into the gym?

I used to look at pictures of me as a fatass. That was enough to freak me the hell out and get me to the gym.

On a more positive note: I now put pics of myself from figure competitions on my fridge to remind me of what I can achieve. (If I want to have carb-depletion-related hallucinations)

You can do easy things to slowly get the weight off that doesn't cost you much in your daily life.

Park farther and walk more often. Go up stairs instead of elevators. when you have quiet moments, sneak in a few excercise moves. Like squats or lunges. Do some standing ab crunches. always squeeze in your abs while you're doing mundane things.

Drink more water instead of soda or tea or etc. (that is enough to drop 5 lbs!) Think of portion control instead of controlling what you eat. Know how much is a healthy portion versus an "oversized" portion.

Once you start slow, incorporating one easy thing at a time, it will become routine and the lbs will just start dropping off with no effort whatsoever!

Ugh. Been extremely good with diet & exercise & whatnot--until a few days ago, after wrapping the last big project of the year. Not a bender but enough late nights and twists on my usual schedule to keep me away from the gym/yoga studio.

I disclose this to make the point: We all stumble. The best advice is to shrug it off and get back on track. In my case, getting to the gym today; getting to yoga after work tomorrow.

Also gotta remember the value of Just Showing Up. Today's gym trip will be medium or medium-hard. The goal is to get back on track, not self-punishment.

    Good luck, aviendha!

It's important to make exercising and eating healthier Habits. You see, we all do things out of habit, like eating when you're hungry, taking the trash out when it's full, or going to the bathroom when you get that urge. Working out needs to be conditioned in the same way. So you don't question yourself about doing it or get out of making time to do it.

Just like you brush your teeth in the morning, working out needs to be apart of your daily routine. Stop making excuses just do it. I never miss an episode of Nip n Tuck, because I've conditioned myself to not miss an episode. It's sounds alot easier than it is, but once you set out time to exercise, commit to that time religiously -- then when it becomes routine, it's a habit and as we all know habits are hard to break.

    Good Luck!
