    Default Photo Shoot!

Ok, so this is actually a new one for me.

A few weeks back I was in Long Beach CA and while putzing around the shows, I got into a conversation with someone about the Tech industry, what I do, and where it's going. As it turns out the guy was a contributor to a magazine, (it's a new one so not too incredibly popular lot of ads for it though)

When he formally introduced himself via his occupation (as you can assume for those who know me, this took him a long time to find a break in the convo allowing of this.)

Well, I was asked to contribute and also grace the first magazine as a headliner (I signed a paper releasing my image for the cover of this mag only for a fee but I doubt it would be used) example of the issue's focus "Changing the Image of the I.T. industry Forever Better".

So... this all fell to the wayside... till I was actually contacted for an interview! I complied. Now, I have been contacted about a photo shoot!

This is where I am getting to... when you know a photoshoot is coming, is there anything you do to prepare for it? Like last minute toppers on what you already have to sharpen the edge?

I'm really hoping this works out for the best! I mean I can get up in front of 50+ people and tell bad jokes...but this? This has me baffled. This is supposed to be a nationwide publication! I'm not putting the cart before the horse, but I am definitely enjoying the treatment.

    Thoughts?

How will they want you to look? I mean will you be half naked holding a key board over your man bits or in a charlie brown sweater and khakis?

Im guessing youre showing your face only. I would exfoliate, shave, and maybe get some white strips to make that smile extra bright. I dont think this will require much.

I agree with tm, but don't forget to moisturize at night, and apply a little bit of shine controlling stuff before the shoot... shine on face looks like shit on camera. Wear a colored shirt, not black or white, because those don't really flatter people in photos.... a royal or light blue would be a pretty color on most people.. I really have no clue what you look like. Also, make sure your hair is freshly cut and styled... nothing looks more professional on a man ( other than an armani suit) than a fresh hair cut and a good shave.

And, please please please follow the advise for the white strips.. it grosses me out when I see pics of guys with yellow teeth.

Also, practice your face in the mirror, and make sure not to tilt your head up. So many people do that, and it makes their jaws and noses look huge. A very slight down tilt is flattering to most... go too far with it and you'll look evil. Shoulders back. You're good to go.

Don't drink the night before and get plenty of sleep; these things are usually early in the morning. Exfoliate and shave. Find out if they're bringing a makeup artist or not, and if they're not, then apply at least a powder before the shoot.

You won't need much help. You're naturally sexy just as you are and you know it!

What she said, and try not to eat very much salt at dinner, and quit drinking water a couple hours before going to bed to avoid puffy face. And try and sleep on your back if you can. About the powder, find one that matches your skin tone, not a translucent one ( which make peoples faces look a glowy white in photos), and apply a light layer with a powder brush... check to make sure the brush doesn't leave pieces of brush hair on your face or neck.

Don't be overwhelemed. This stuff is all very simple to do, but is a lot to think of at once for someone who's not used to it. Just writ eit all down on a list, and cross off as you go along.

I forgot about this thread TM or I would have told you at least...

It's kind of flattering, but I was addressed at ehx www.ehxweb.com because I had jumped up on a table and was helping an exhibitor (very VERY good dinner with a Sweet Blonde from Austin out of this by the by.) bring people to his booth by talking about all the crazy chicks a cable tester will get you.

Apparently the guy saw me and made it a point to look up my tag number, after reviewing it's results, he decided he wanted to chat it up with me, then I guess he liked what I had to say. The formal letter came with a dinner invite and was basically stating that I gave off an image of personal relations, approachability, and equality while visibly I look like I take good care of myself. I break the stereotype of the gamer mentality that non-industry members have with the industry and they want to show that being/appearing as a professional to a professional translates to dollars in the bank.

So, I have to admit, I'm severely flattered.

Indeed, I'm not going to be all about the "hold this clipboard". But, I don't know how much "artistic control" I can have.
