Arrow *Paging My Austin Lovlies...I Need Some Help!*

Ok, as of tomorrow morning it'll finally be official- we're moving to Austin. I'm not sure on a date yet, but I need to start figuring some things out in the meantime. So, this is where all you people from Austin come in.

    Here's what I need.

    1. Recommendations for doctors, dentists, optometrists, gynos, and anything having to do with our health insurance stuff. I want to know who is good and who to stay away from. So please, please, PLEASE...at least clue me in on this because I don't want to be stuck with a bad doctor!

    2. I'm slightly picky on this one, so I knew I'd need to come here for help. I need someone who can cut hair very well! I've been known to request a full razor cut and/or cutting off 10+ inches of hair at one time, so I need someone I can trust to do that.

    3. Places to get oil changes/car repairs and the like. I have some serious trust issues when it comes to mechanics, so the good/bad information will be very much appreciated.

    4. Cable/phone/cell phones? I just want a general picture of what you guys have that we might not.

    5. A vet that specializes in small animals. I've got ferrets and birds, and I need to make sure I know who I can take them to if need be.

Any other information would be greatly appreciated. I'm just trying to make this move as smooth as possible because of the way it was getting out of the apartment and into a house (which was just across town). Hopefully all of you will have some much needed info for me because I trust you guys more than I'd trust a ratings site or someone I've never talked to.

If you need private health insurance, I can sell it for you. For doctors, I go to Nancy Lee, she is a PA I believe, but she is good. Austin Regional Clinic has good doctors. I am in the market for a new pussy doctor though, will let you know what I find.

I usually went to the Planned Parenthood in South Austin. They were compassionate and affordable.

My dentist and eye doctor are also fab. The dentist's office is super christian, but they do a good job, so I just ignore it. They are down south though. Since I moved north, I might have to find new ppl myself. Luckily, nothing is too far away here.

My girl V will take care of you. She is also russian and hooks up my referrals for very cheap.

Errrr, this one is tougher. It depends on the type of car you have, but I have 2 mechanic buddies. T will do you right. But moreso, I can tell you were NOT to go, which can be just as good. My beemer is still under warranty, so I just let them take care of me now.

For cable modem, Roadrunner or Earthlink. DSL and dial-up have more choices. I use Earthlink cable as I need super-fast speeds to download my porn.

Cell phones should be the same no matter what. Sprint sucks ass.

My kitty goes to Dr. McCleod on North Lamar. They are very kind at the clinic. I don't know if they specialize in your animals though.

If you want more info, PM me, I will give you my contact information. Welcome to the ATX girl!

Well, we've got hella good insurance through Mox's work, so that's no problem. We just have to pick a PCP within 30 days of moving or whatever (I think that goes for a gyno, too, but I'm not sure), so I want to make sure I've done my homework so I don't just have to scan down a list and go, "Hmm...that looks like a good one!"

I'm sure I'll be PMing you at some point, though. We plan to make it down there one Saturday to do a bit of checking out and stuff, so I'll let you know when I figure out when that'll happen.

I don't know of any health insurance that makes you choice a gyno right away. But there are plenty of good PCP, check to see if Nancy Lee is in your network.

That's great that his ins lets you benefit too. Many providers don't cover domestic partners.

My favorite doc by far is Melissa Normand at Seaton Northwest. She's so pretty that you will want to second guess her, but she can simply look you up and down and tell you wat is wrong with you in 30 seconds. When I first started seeing her, I always got a second opinion because I suppose the blond hair and very stylish clothes and her quickness to diagnose fooled me, but, in the end, she was ALWAYS right.

Gyno- Brasher/Gyles also Seaton NW, so good she has a nearly two month waiting list, but I've done my reaserch and she is the very best around.

For razor cuts and great color there is Giacomo Forbes off of w 12th. He has done many celebs including linda evangelista, meg ryan, drew berrymore, and claudia schiffer I believe. He is also not cheap, but not outragously priced either.
He pretty much only uses razors, which is why I have stayed away... I have jewish girl hair, and it looks great after he does it, but then it splits sooo badly. I will be going back to him for a dye job shortly.

Good Dentist = Dr. Dowd off of Rundburg. He's been at it a very long time, and he is a sweet old man. His office is super kid friendly. His wife make little bunnies out of cloth witha space in the middle for an ice cube and give these " boo boo bunnies" to the kiddies as well as little toothbrush toothpaste goody bags.

Barton springs is freezing, but very very nice. Sixth street is for the frat sorority crowd, fifth and fourth have way classier bars. Do not get on mopac south bound in december after dark..... you will be stuck for a looong time waiting fior the trail of lights people. Do not speed on mopac n. bound after farwest to braker, or anywhere on william cannon or brody, you will always see someone getting pulled over in those areas even if it's only 3 miles over the speed limit ( me!). We have a huge hippie community, and tons of free or nearly free ( two or three cans of food) music and artsy festivals. If you go to hippie hallow, you will probably be the only hot person there..... old naked fat men love to play hackey sac here..... but there are no kids allowed and you can tan nude.

The best food is as follows:
    Sushi- Kenichi, Uchi, Umi, Mercado
Pizza- Cazolies ( in Highland mall), Succonies, and some new place off of congress.
Thai- Satay, you will never find a more amazing place.
Mexican- Tacoria Arandinas, authentic, you will need to learn a bit of spanish to have them get your order right, but they are gooooddddd.
    Italian- Spaghettie warehouse
    open at least 'till 4:
Wanfu, Katz's deli, starseeds, and the usual dennys and ihop.

My friend was given a funny but true list when she moved here, that she e-mailed to me. I'll see if I can find it.

I remember having to pick, but I guess it was after open enrollment period.

We're common-law, though, Kat. That was part of the reason why we did it. We weren't ready for the big wedding and all yet, but Mox wanted to make sure I was taken care of and had legal rights...blah blah...
