Default Penthouse in Dallas gets its license revoked after 21 prostitution cases

I worked at Penthouse for one night last month. I never went back because the expected contact level was... um... a little too high for my comfort. The following article does not surprise me in the least.

License revoked at Penthouse club after prostitution inquiry

Dallas: Police say 21 dancers agreed to sex with undercover agents

12:00 AM CST on Saturday, December 9, 2006

By JASON TRAHAN / The Dallas Morning News

City officials revoked the Penthouse Key Club's sexually oriented business license after police said 21 topless dancers agreed to have sex inside the club with undercover detectives over a six-month period.

Even though the Permits and License Appeal Board on Thursday upheld Police Chief David Kunkle's decision to revoke the license, the club's representatives requested an injunction that will allow it to remain open until a hearing is held in about two weeks, authorities said.

A manager at the club declined to comment, other than to say they were still open. The club's attorney, Roger Albright, did not return phone calls.

From February through August, at least two detectives went to the club on Stemmons Freeway near Empire Central and made cases on 21 dancers, police said.

"The girls agreed to have sex for money," said Deputy Chief Julian Bernal, who commands the vice unit. "The agreed-upon sex acts were to have been done inside the Penthouse Key Club."

A few of the dancers were arrested immediately, while cases were filed on others later in order to protect the undercover detective's identity, police said. In those cases, warrants are issued for the dancer's arrest and often are difficult to serve.

"A lot of the girls dance at a lot of different clubs," said Lt. Eno Fite, a vice unit supervisor. "They may get mad and work at one club, leave and go to another club."

The city will reconsider the club's license again in a year.
