I do poi, but have yet to light up. I use the LED ends, and the effect is mesmerizing, but not nearly as impressive as fire can be.

Here is a good site to buy Poi items. Home of Poi
This one looks pretty cool, too. I've never used them before, though. Fire by Ritz.

Oh! For those with no training like myself yet still want to get in on it -- YES tie your hair back! It is a must!!! I know I don't want to get my ass-length wonderful healthy hair burnt. No f-ing way! Plus if you are going to set any part of your body on fire ... make sure you have a "barrier" on before-hand!!

A barrier can be moisturiser (which is what I use) or baby oil .. make sure you have covered the part(s) of your body well with this barrier and then use some hair mousse to set yourself on fire with (buy the cheapest one possible).

Due to being a newb at it and un-trained, I put the mousse on my belly button then "wipe" it up my body towards my face real quick once I have set it on fire or else just 'slap' it out once I have transferred the on fire mousse to my hands.

It is done real quick once it has been set alight. Plus I did practice before-hand before doing it.

One dancer stupidly decided to do the same trick because she thought it was kewl ... well... she has the burn scar to proove her stupidity. She didn't use a barrier at all... just went ahead.. used the hair mousse and set it on fire and thus burnt herself.

    Education and knowledge is key.

This is why this is all I do in regards to fire as I want to be trained first before I do anything more........

Thats a great tip GCG! I will have to practise the "mousse" technique before I get the balls to try it on stage. I like the idea better than torches right now. I want someone to show me how to use torches as opposed to learning on my own.

^^Sinder check with club mgmt first... a lot of clubs dont want any fire that leaves the girls hands... most places are wands only.

The owner said it was okay as long as it was a small flame...like small torches or the small flame of lighting nipples on fire and such. I don't think I would be comfortable with using large wands. I gotta get my butt up to TO! I have been trying to get there to visit my bro. I'll holla at ya when I do get my arse up there!

The best thing to do is a water show before the fire show... usually I soap myself up first and leave the water there.
