    Default Birth Control Question...

Ok well I did a search on here for birth control and I couldn't find my answer...

    soooooooo

Im gonna be getting on birth control because my boyfriend and I are tired of condoms after a year and a half lol... but I want to get on one that lots of girls have had good experiences with. I don't want to do the shot, I've had too many close friends gain weight from it. And I know... I know... every body is different but Im just curious what birth control you guys use and which one you feel is the "best?"

    Thanks!!

The shot worked wonderfully for me... I'm now on Implanon and waiting out my depression to see if I need to switch back.

I've been on one birth control pill or another for about ten years. I've been on Levlin for a few years now but think it might be time to switch, as I've gotten more prone to yeast infections.

Hmm... I tried the NuvaRing but wasn't thaaaat impressed with it. Putting it in and taking it out and timing it is all kind of quirky IMO, I'd probably prefer the pill (never been on it though).

I tried Depo but had a terrible experience. The ladies at Planned Parenthood said what I experiened was normal, and that on the second shot (after withstanding 3 months of nausea, sex drive lack, and constant vaginal bleeding) everything should pretty much be evened out. I lack the balls to try it all again, so me and the male counterpart are currently putting up with condoms.

I think it's time for me to try the pill. x.x

Oh, about gaining weight with Depo!! I actually lost weight for the three months I was on it, possibly because I was nauseous. But my boobs fluffed up, too.

I've been on Yasmin for a few years now. Haven't had any problems with it, EXCEPT I'm prone to migraines, and Yasmin definitely doesn't help. I switched to Yaz recently (lower-dose Yasmin), and it works pretty nicely but I still get migraines.

I do find it very nice to be able to know exactly when I'll get my periods, plus it's much lighter bleeding and no cramps. Convenient.

you have to play around to find wha's right for you. I have had such bad luck from hormonal birth control- but don't let me dissuade you. Many people do not react like I do. Don't take one brand of pills and have it not work out and figure all pills don't work. that's not the case. It's normal to try several brands until you find one that's suitable for you.

I have heard many positive things about nuvaring, mirena (IUD), yasim and estrostep (all BC pills). Some BD pills have androgenic qualities and increase your risk of increased body hair, acne, hair loss, etc- so I would look inot those that do not have angdrogenic qualities.

Have you ever Taken BC before or are you just restarting it? If You've never used it you could probably start on a lower dose pill which will lessen the side effects like weight gain and all that.

I started on Alesse and just recently switched to Linessa (its a new lowe-dose form of Marvelon). There is also a low dose version of Ortho Tri-Cyclen.

At the doctor's office/PP they should have a chart that shows all of the different brands and compares the amount of Progestin (baby stopping drug) with the amount of synthetic Estrogen (side effect causing part) and they can help you choose one.

I take ortho-novum. I had pretty bad side effects (weight gain, breast tenderness, bad mood swings, etc) the first couple months, but it evened out and stuff is all back to normal... except I went up an entire cup size, very exciting.
