    Default veneers overseas?

I'm thinking about getting teeth veneers overseas. I'm going to Taiwan and porcelain veneers there cost $200- $250 per tooth while my dentist here quoted me $900 per tooth. If I get them I'd want to get about 5 teeth done so getting them overseas would be a big savings. I'm just concerned if they would do them right. Doctors in Taiwan are very good but I don't know how the dentists are. Veneers are also less common and haven't been done for as long there.
I'm curious if anything can go wrong with porcelain veneers? Do porcelain veneers usually usually last 10 years or longer? I'm not really interested in getting non-porcelain veneers because I heard they don't last very long and discolor.
    Thanks!

the porcelain alone costs $300-400 in the states. Sounds so sketchy if they are doing it for $200-250/tooth.

And yes, stuff does happen. They break. I've already had 2 break. (Well, one broke because I bit on a popcorn kernal too hard and the other I had decay under and it had to come off to get to it.) But the good news he fixed them for free. The even better news is that he's not in Taiwan.

It's not just about the porcelain itself, but the prepping. If the dentist preps too much, you will have horrible sensitivity. Plus when you need a new veneer (like if the old one breaks or jsut needs replacing due to age, they will have to remove more enamel, so you want to have more there for that.) Or if they don't prep enough, you'll have bulky horse teeth. If they don't align your bite right, you will have headaches. Your dentist has to be very well-trained and not jsut some fly-by-night. It's a big deal. And it sucks that any dentist is "qualified" to do cosmetic work, unlike other areas of medicine.

oh, and why are you getting 5? You definitely want to keep it symmetrical. And it takes awhile to fabricate the veneers in a lab (usually remote, so they have to send molds to them and wait for the veneers to come back.) Most dentists have you wear temps for 2 or so weeks. How do they do that if you're not from there? Do you take 2 trips?

A few girls I used to work with when I started dancing 7 years ago went to Hungary (where they're from) to have them done. They all looked really, really good. It was a lot cheaper and the quality of care was excellent, from what I was told.

Plus I hear Budapest is a beautiful city.

    Not to plug again but...

A lot of women fly to TJ or Costa Rica for cosmetic dentistry because it's so much cheaper. Things can go wrong with veneers because your tooth enamel is usually removed before the veneers are bonded to your teeth. Lumineers (a type of veneer) don't necessitate enamel removal. There's a doc in Costa Rica by the name of Flikier who does them.

Thanks for the replies. Hmmm it sounds a little more risky and complicated than I thought. I'm going to think about it. It's interesting that good veneers can be done overseas. I just thought of getting them in Taiwan since I'll be there for 2 weeks anyways. I thought of getting 5 veneers for my top 4 center teeth then the tooth that's directly left of them since the spacing is a little off. (The tooth on the other side is more normally spaced.) Maybe I should consider getting 6.
