    Default I bought myself a present,,feel guilty

I bought a grey cashmere Juicy Couture sweatsuit today at the mall for $700. I know you are supposed to buy for other people at this time of year, but I really wanted it and it's supercute! I feel guilty about splurging like that , besides, I sobered up a bit...think I should return it? I want to keep it..but I don't..but I do..................

    Sorry it's a lame question .

I think you should allow yourself one or 2 expensive gifts to yourself a year. As long as you can afford it, then why not treat yourself every now and then?

Well, you're in Arizona. Do you really ever wear sweaters?

You can wear cute little sweatsuits about 3 months out of the year. I CAN afford it but I SHOULD be saving . I want it .It's darling, but I feel guilty. I haven't gone shopping or purchased anything really good for myself in like 6 months.....I suppose I could work a little more. I just think about the price and I think about my bills and Xmas...but you should give yourself a little treat here and there, right? OMG.. I'm conflicted. It's just a sweat suit!

If you can afford it and can use it, I fail to see the problem.

I bought myself stuff from Saks when I went to America because 'a girl has to have ONE thing from Saks!'... it was a Juicy top, skirt and socks... I regretted it then.. but I fricken at least wear one of the items almost every day.

Are you going to feel guilty every time you wear the sweater? If not, what's the problem as long as your bills aren't suffering and you're able to afford the gifts you need to purchase. If so, it's not going to be worth the sour feeling you have in your stomach every time you look at it.

I say if you have to question the feeling, you should not go with the feeling, just as a general rule.

When I feel like that, I always think: Is there something else I could buy that I'd get more use out of for that money? If there's nothing else I want, would use more, would be happier with longer term, I'll buy it. Because then it means this is what I really want. If I can think of something else more useful or whatever, I'll get that instead because I'll be happier (and feel less guilty) with that. We deserve a little splurging on ourselves sometimes. WTF are we working for if we can't enjoy it a little? If you can afford it, and no bills, wants or obligations will suffer, then I don't see the problem. As long as you're not spending all your money on this stuff, it's ok. We don't have to save every extra dime we have.

    Quit beating yourself up.

Yes, return it. If only because Juicy sweatsuits are soooo 2002.

Or you could put $500 of it in a mutual fund and use the rest to buy a plain 'ol velour one. Trust me, cashmere needs some serious maintenance.

Don't feel guilty! Everyone deserves a little treat. Thats a damned lot of money for a sweatsuit, but if you love it and it makes you feel good wearing it, then keep it! I bought myself a digitial camera recently. I felt guilty about it but I love it so oh well. We work hard for our moolah. Treat yerself and don't feel bad about it.

Keep it! You gotta have splurges like that once in a while. Plus, if you haven't bought yourself anything for 6 months, you deserve this! Gotta love the Juicy!

Can this thread be confession time? Cause I spent $700 on a louis Vuitton handbag a month ago and still haven't taken it out of the bag. It's too late to return it, but I feel guilty that I bought it!

okay, I got that off my chest.

Twisterin, I think it's fine to splurge on yourself. Because usually other people don't buy us what we really want anyway. But I agree that maybe you could exchange it for a velour one for a lot less...

I know that Juicy suits might be "over" but they are so comfortable! I might be stuck with it anyway..the sales girl forgot to give me the receipt. I'm sure I could get a 700 dollar store credit.

Jeez, and I thought the ones I bought for $300 each were bad. j/p It's fine to treat yourself, as long as the rents paid.

Ah Just keep the sweater. Its comfy and warm and much better than blowing it all up the nose. There are worse things to spend money on. Im with Miss Jessica though ..$300 for anything or more than that amount I feel guilty.

Nina is in NYC and into fashion, so she's probably a little more aware of trends. I admit that I am embarrassed sometimes to wear my juicy tracksuits, but I do keep reaching for them because they are comfortable.

it's a classic though....you don't have to worry about it going out of style like the geranium PINK Marc Jacobs bag I got. I don't care. I'll still rock that thing.

Anyway, I think for someone that doesn't spend a lot on clothing, an occasional splurge is warranted.

They're great for spotting teenage tourists from the Midwest at least.

They are cute and comfortable, but $700 for a fad item when the fad's long passed? The regular velour tracksuits are, what, $200?

Nothing wrong with buying cute stuff (even if it's not classic) once in a while. It just sounds like she really can't afford it, otherwise I wonder why she'd be asking and feel so guilty about it.

What kind of store that sells $700 tracksuits doesn't give out receipts?

    It's her money, so whatever.

I bought a Chanel jacket for almost $4K as a present to myself for my birthday. But the rent not only got paid, I still had enough to put a few thousand away to invest.

And don't bother with the LV bags either. There are so many fakes out there that people usually assume they're fake anyway. Especially if the person carrying it "looks" like a stripper with bleached hair, giant fake tits, fake tan and acrylic nails. It doesn't make you look "classy", it looks quite the opposite actually.
