    Pole trick question

Hey everyone! I was wondering if it is possible that some people will not physically be able to do some pole tricks? I don't mean because they can't hold their weight, not confident, bla bla bla.

I've been dancing now for about a year now and I can do basic pole work...I don't really like doing it at work for some reason. I have a pole at home which I use every once in a while and might sell if I don't learn some new stuff soon. Lately I've been killing myself trying to learn how to do this one invert...I had my friend who can do it come help me...and i just can't do it AT ALL.

This is what I'm trying to do:
(*Alena, btw, you're awesome and if I decide to do online classes instead of going somewhere I'm going to you!)

This is seriously such a basic invert and I can't do it. I have bow legs so I think that could be my problem. My thighs barely touch the pole and I'd think you'd need them for grip.

So will I probably never be able to do this and other tricks based off of it or is there something I can do to make it work.

    TIA!

remember to cross your feet over... do you still have a gap between your legs when you are standing up with your feet crossed?

If I cross my feet (which I do do when doing the trick) while standing on the floor my calves are the last thing that touch on my legs...and my knees. My thighs don't touch at all.

I just tried it again and my thighs do touch the pole but barely. I can feel it there but can't figure out how to grip it. At this point I graze it

If you notice...my knees are slightly bent!

when you are standing cross left over right...since your left foot comes to the front of the pole(back of heel) and your right is on the backside of the pole (top of foot). UNLESS you invert from right. Then it would be a mirror image.

also look a the foot position...they are turned so that the toes are pointed in the same basic direction...front, your thighs dont need to touch...just above the knees!

the pole rests just above your knees, not half way up your thighs.

That's not "such a basic invert"! It's tricky. I can't do it without boots.

I have to say, too, don't judge yourself too much against Alena! She's been doing this stuff for...(can I say how long? heehee).

Aha, Ive often wondered the same thing. There is a basic pole trick which I can do but only just and it takes more effort than I feel it should to do so. Where as all the other girls seem to be able to learn this straight away and just sit there on the pole fairly easilly, I find it very hard not to slide down the pole when Im gripping it - or trying to. I dont know the name but it involves simply gripping the pole between the thighs and holding yourself there. Eventually you can lower yourself back and hang upside down. I have skinny legs and when I put them together there is a gap between them. I noticed most people dont have this so thats why I wondered... see pic of my chicken legs, and excuse the mess in the background lol - its the garage, not that it matters.

I have space-between-thighs chicken legs too, and had a hard time learning that one too. The less fat you have to grip with the harder it is, I think. But it's doable, it's easy for me now.

Good point LM, pole is totally all about practice

It is very doable with chicken legs...I got em too!!!

It is called the Cross Knee Seat.

For us chicken legs, you need to remember to lift your legs higher than your waist, cross your knee, and let them slide down into place....you need to use the skin instead of having meat!!!

Aussie I swear the pic you posted was of my legs...except my gap is way worse than that. I worked tonight so I haven't tried doing it again and I didn't want to try there because I am very achy. I will try some more in the morning and let you guys know how it goes. Thanks for the help!

^^^ Me too! I always wanted chicken legs. But hey, there's a pole work advantage to meat on the bones? Yay!

It doesn't matter if you're bow legged. You grip the pole between the shin of one leg and the calf of the other. You can always bring those two together. It just takes strenght.

I checked my legs whilst in the seated position and with gravity the gap is definatly pole sized. I remember the first time I was able to do that trick (Forgotten the name already!) I ached the worst I can ever remember! But I cant wait to try it the wat Alena suggested, why do I not yet own my own pole damnit!

    How did you go?

I'm still working on it. I just need to build up more strength I guess...I can stay up here for a few seconds and down I go. Practice makes perfect...and very sore arms as well. Ill eventually get it and i'll post a pic.
