    Default Dammit Give me STRENGTH!!!

    Ok, so I've been doing good all morning trying to do this water fast ( I dont have any 100% juice around yet) and I can't do it. I've been going strong since 9am and it's now 3pm.

    I feel so defeated...I just called Larosa's (pizza rest.) and ordered a philly cheesesteak calzone AND 12 med-spicy wings w/ celery and blue cheese

    Don't worry I"m not going to eat it all in one sitting but still....I dont think this fasting business is for me. Maybe I should just stick to my weights and cardio, and just increase the cardio.

    CK goes off to lay in her bed while she awaits the pizza guy to deliver her food within 30-40min

    Fasting seldomly makes sense. Or at least I can't really do it, I get grumpy when I'm hungry!! Plus, see what happened mami? Your body went into survival mode and began craving crap!

    Honestly, I don't believe there is anything to benefit from these fasts. If you eat right and poop normally, your body naturally will rid itself of toxins. Its how we were designed. Also, the body was designed to go into survival mode when it doesn't have enough nutrients. Effectively, fasting can be potentially dangerous.

    I tried to fast a few times when I was trying to be jewish in my youth. I never made it!

    Fasts are not good for you, especially long-term. Your brain shuts down seratonin production (making you crabby), your body goes into survival mode (making you crave junk food), and your metabolism slows down (making you store more fat).

    I do Yom Kippur once a year and I fucking hate it. Why anyone would do it voluntarily is beyond me.

    yom kippor fasts are so much worse for me then a liquid fast! ah!!!!

    9th av... do you do that one, yek, is such a killer, b/c you also have to sit on the ground/uncomfortable, no entertainment/distractions, really miserable

    I don't do Tisha B'Av anymore. It's awful, you're right! I used to be really Orthodox but as I've gotten more lax in my observance, I kinda abandoned that one. I only fast on Yom Kippur, and I drink water that day even though I'm not supposed to. I pass out if I don't.

    cinn- sorry to hijack! DOn't give up completely, just try again another time. Start with low goals, 1-3 days, liquids only (veggie broth, water, juice) and wait untill you have the means to do it. Fasts go much better when you're prepared. have lots of fruits/veggies around and a juicer. Work your way up. You gatta crawl first, girl

    yek- I can't fast, I'm anemic, and I'll pass out as well, so I do liquids too, water and broth. I'm more into we do what we can, and that's all G-d expects.

    sometimes, though, I feel bad for being less observant, b/c I was raised into it, it should come naturally.... but I still keep a kosher kitchen, bentch, and try by holidays. But I too, am so much more lax (obviously.....)

    I just wanted to say that the first 3 days of my fasts were always hard. If you are finding it too hard to go without food, buy some fresh fruits and veggies to snack on...preferably ones that you will not need any kind of dip for. The hard thing about water fasts is that there is no substance to water so you stay hungry. With the juices, it gives your body something to work on.

    I have to say that fasts are extremely good for you...in moderation...and as long as you listen to your body.

    Aww, well dont completely give up. Its often hard to do this sort of thing first time around. I think a water fast is probably not the best thing to do anyway if youre starting out, its a bit extreme if you're new to this sort of thing. I think there are better and easier things to start out with for cleansing. I started out with a couple of liver flushes because they only inconvenience you for a day food wise and the results are wonderful if you do them properly!
    When I started the anti-candida diet (of which I also failed, I did 2 months not the required 4...) I just made sure I ONLY had allowed foods in the house and "lost" any tempting delivery food menes and numbers. This made things so much easier, I have failed in the past after less than a day too. Cleanses where you can eat something even if its just bland boring brown rice are much easier to deal with as our bodies do need some nutrients!

    Seriously. Fasting is pretty much only good for dropping some quick waterweight pounds and temporarily slowing down your metabolism and possibly forcing your body into ketosis (a toxic state).

    Instead of fasts, try going 3 days ONLY eating totally raw fruits, veggies, and natural juices? You'll actually be eating food (instead of starving yourself), and with whole fruits/ vegetables you'll more likely be reaching the healthy calorie low of about 1000-1200. That'll "clear" your system out and drop water weight just as effectively, if not moreso, than starving yourself for a week or more.

    nah, fuck water fasting. i couldn't if i tried. don't feel bad, it's just not natural in my book.

    i'd rather go for a run and eat normally.

    Water fasting is too damn hard, but juice fasts are great for cleaning out your mind (not your intestines!). Kind of like going vegan or kosher, it requires you to slow down and do one of the most basic human activities mindfully. You must concentrate, you must pay attention, you must think about what you are eating. Many people approach it as a spiritual thing (not necessarily religious), a time for self-reflection and contemplation.

    It is wonderful for clearing heads, not so great for shedding pounds.
