A company contracted to build the border fence busted for using illegal labor!

Oooops.
it's about time .....now to see if they get deported. I saw a young woman with a sign that said something like "Don't tear my family apart" ....I'd love to slap that b*tch. Maybe her stupid mom should have been a legal citizen and then they wouldn't have to worry about being torn apart.
And I don't even any to hear any excuses of how hard it is, etc, etc ....I know several people that have done it. In fact, my boyfriend mom got deported twice when she was in her teens until she finally came back and did it the right - legal - way. I have ZERO sympathy for these people.

^Zero sympathy? Right, cause if your family lived in a house made out scraps and cardboard, its way more important to obey the law than it is to feed your family a decent meal and put a roof over their heads. Let your children starve on the streets instead of crossing the border illegally to feed them!
It really bothers me when people are so callous to a fellow human being who is in a difficult situation. Try to understand where they are coming from. They are just trying to earn a living, to take care of their families. Anyone would do the same thing after walking a mile in thier shoes.
Me too Zabrina, me too.
Then to see someone say they would like to physically assault a young person because they were simply holding up a sign that says don't tear my family apart...
And people wonder why there are all these cases of e- coli showing up in our food supply. Maybe it has something to do with biting the hand that feeds us- or at least picks our fruits and veggies.
I also have to wonder where all this outrage about illegal immigrants was prior to the rightwing propaganda machine using it as a political tool.
Gee we sure didn't hear much complaining before then..... and folks wonder why the term sheep became so popular
I mean seriously all these people so up in arms about illegal immigration should wake up and realize that they are being USED by a particular section of the rightwingers.
This nation is dependant on illegal immigrant labor to function and that isn't going to change anytime soon nor does the "establishment" really want it to change either. It works for them too well.
The only way to get illegal immigrants to come here in a legal manner is to make it easier and most of all faster to come here the correct way. As long as it is easier or faster to come improperly than it is legally they will come illegaly. No fence is going make a damn bit of difference. When it is a live and die situation as it is for most people when they first cross the border- well they will find a way. Always have, alwys will.
Those so strongly opposed to illegal immigrants might say they wouldn't break the law to not starve but we all know that is a lie.... hell I bet half the people on SW who complain about illegal immigrants are either currently breaking some sort of law related to stripclubs (or have done so in the past) to make their living or even just enjoy a night out.... For example- distance laws, contact laws, nudity laws, trading numbers in places where it is illegal etc. etc.
They sit they on their high horse and expect OTHER people to starve rather than cross the border to work and yet many of them break laws themselves all the time. But I guess that is ok because they are U.S citizens eh .. grr.... it's fucking unbelievable !

Gosh Tara, you really need to explore what illegal immigration is doing to our infrastructure. There is no sitting on a high horse when 40% of another country (plus others) empties into this one... there are severe repercussions of economic opportunity for the people here ("think of the black people" "think of the blue collar worker") and crime that should never have happened. Throw in "handling problems the Mexican way" and there are real problems.
Then throw in the whole Atzlan BS and it's going to be a real problem.
That said, the real answer is pressuring Mexico to get their shit together. Their government fiddles enough in our affairs (printing how to cross the border brochures, aiding the transfer of US money into their system, hell - their politicians even campaign here!)
When a carpenter can't get a job because he doesn't speak Spanish or is underbid by labor that pays no taxes, insurance, etc... that is not a right winger - that is someone calling bullshit. Take New Orleans for example, after the hurricane - everybody thought there would be reconstruction jobs for citizens to rebuild their city with - nope. Camps of illegals all over the place and the locals trying to rebuild their city are locked out.
There are always two sides to the story.
I was in NO after Katrina. My bf owns a construction company and his company was doing cleanup work there. In talking to other contractors, they were having trouble getting workers to rebuild. One job in particular, was roof work. It's hot and humid there, so roof work really sucks. The job kept having the legal workers walk off because they didn't want to do it! US workers didn't want the job because it required working out in the sun all day. Immigrants are willing to take up the slack on jobs Americans refuse to do. We need them because without them, its just not going to to get done. There are thousands of other jobs that even the poorest Americans snub their noses at, and non-citizens are more than happy just to have work.
Deogol,
I know there are some problems that stem from illegal immigration but I don't believe they are nearly as bad as the rightwing propaganda machine wants people to believe.... if it was such a HUGE problem then where was the outrage prior to the last two elections cycles ????
I also know that here in ABQ in the neighborhood I just built a house in that the construction companies are hurting for labor, some houses are more than two months behind due to it... buyers are backing out because of the long wait and deadlines not being met. When I inquired as to what the problem was the answer was that many of day labors have been spooked by the witch hunt on illegals and legal workers are not even applying for the jobs. BTW, most construction jobs are not min. wage either as you probably know already.
I also know that in FL. where I have many friends and family that oranges and strawberries have not been picked in time and farmers are losing crops. When inquired as to why this is happening the answer is exactly the same many illegal's are scared and legal workers don't want the jobs for obvious reasons- these jobs pay min. wage or just barely more and are hard labor.
Yes there have been problems with some illegal immigrants abusing the system ( note stats show legal residents/citizens abuse it more however) but now that illegals are under attack by some rightwingers and racist vigilante groups like the Minutemen- new problems are occurring that are just as bad or worse. The current witch hunt on illegals isn't solving jack shit and is actually making things worse in alot of ways.

I would love to see what the mexican government would do if thousands of US citizens went to live and work illegally in Mexico, while never speaking mexican, only english, showing the american flag all over ours cars and houses, demanding to be treated fairly and with respect, demanding to get free education for our children, etc. I'll tell you right nowm they would never allow it. And don't get me wrong....I'm not saying that mexicans are the only problem. There's illegal aliens from all over the world.
I'm third generation here, but my family came from Ireland and Poland. I never once saw my great-grandfather, who was born and raised in Poland until he was a teen, parading around with a Polish flag. He came here, legally with his parents, became a US citizen, learned English and joined the military. He was a proud american citizen. Never once did I ever hear him say something idiotic like "I'm a proud Polish American" NO - he was an American. And a damn good one. The story is the same on my Irish side. Both sides of my family were extremely poor in their respective countries....they came here with NOTHING and made something of themselves and instilled great values in all successive generations. I will forever be proud of them and I will never feel sorry for these illegal aliens. They will never have my respect, they will never have my support, unless of course, they were doing what they could to become a legal US citizen and be proud of it.
My opinions may seem harsh and abrasive, but I don't particularly care if it offends anyone. I don't get into the whole political correctness crap and I don't care if people's feelings are hurt.

Third generation, hmm I think that would put them in the time frame prior to modern immigration laws ( 1952 Act basically established the modern day laws) so then if your family came before that from Ireland they did not have to wait YEARS to get the ok to come and stay here. You see there was a time when immigrants ( w/ some exceptions) just had to do was show up and basically sign in ... it's not so simple these days but I digress..
hey look my grandparents came here from Italy and Germany, also very poor and made something of themselves too ... and yet I still am able to maintain perspective on illegal immigration that doesn't include wanting to physical assualt a young person and calling them a bitch for simply holding a sign expressing support for her family... if anything as the grandchild of immigrants I have more sympathy (not less) for those who want to be here under any circumstances they can..... It's not about caring about being "politically correct" it's about CARING about humanbeings.
You'd rather see people starve than have them cross the border without the proprer doc's. You have said you have no sympathy or respect for ANY of these people and that is disturbing and sad from my perspective... but hey like everyone else Kitty, you are entitled to your own opinions. So what more is there to say?

Plenty of americans live in MX. And the language is Spanish, not Mexican. Your lack of knowledge about the actual language spoken in MX doesn't bode well for your credibility. But.......plenty of Americans and Canadians live in Mexico. Most of them are retirees and don't work, but live pretty simply in small communities in the mountains and on the coasts. What is the Mexican government doing? They are making it easier for them to own home and live safely, because they are bringing money in their economy. The MX government and people are evolving. Here, not so much........
