Default raw food diet + weight training

My friend was telling me he wanted to go on a raw food diet for about a month. He said he flushes your system and you get the full amount of vitamins from the food because its not cooked. I would like to try this to flush out my need for caffiene, fast food and sugar. The only thing I see getting in the way is the weight training I do. Would it be a wise idea to just have a whey protein shake instead of real once alive protein? Im afraid of loosing muscle during this diet.

Also where can I find information on a proper raw diet? How will I know what is off limits and what is ok to eat?

have you tried a board search for posts by RYAN? He posted a plethora of info years ago on the benefits of a raw diet. Could be a good starting point.

Whey protein is excellent; it's the best protein your body can actually use, if you're not lactose intolerant. If you don't want to do whey, soy protein is very good and there are a great many options available.

All that said, a raw food diet takes a lot longer than a month to really make use of its benefits--you're looking at between 3-9 months of sustained adherence to the lifestyle.
Idealism is fine, but as it approaches reality, the costs become prohibitive.

    Very true.

If you are doing this to cleanse your system, drinking whey shakes may not be the best thing for you. They are often filled with a lot of unnatural and processed stuff that add flavour, colour etc. Putting this stuff in your system may defeat the purpose of cleansing.

I went to Olympia this yr and one of the companies was promoting a new Goat Milk based protein instead of whey. I'm lactose and fell in LOVE with this stuff. My trainer said that you can totally do protein powder instead of meat and lots of fitness competiors do that they week before a show to keep their tummys flat.

This is a yummy one too. The best part is how high the absortion rate is.

    Good Luck on your diet!

Daaaaammmnnn. When you figure that out, let me know how it went. That sounds tough to stick to.

I want to do a raw diet really bad, but it's sooo picky I figure most of the weight lost is because you're too annoyed to search for food.

Thumbs up Re: raw food diet + weight training

You will get soo skinny so fast. Hollywood Stars do this for a few quick weeks to get back into shape after having children.
Do it but make sure you take vitamin supplements.

Um, I dont see whats so bad about finding feathers in KFC. It is chicken afterall why is it so strange?
For the record I used to work in a fruit shop and I could tell you some gross stories about that too (-:
Good luck with it anyway. I used to hve 2 friends who had been raw food vegans for 20+ years. They used to grow most of their food and they made the most amazing meals. I wont be doing the vegan thing but I would like to have meals as good as they did / do. I believe its something that should be done well not half-arsed. its going to be such a challenge for me as I hate preparing food. I dont do it at all generally speaking.

It's gross because it means the chicken wasn't cleaned properly. I know what's on feathers before I get the chicken... my parrot gets his own defecation stuck to his feathers all the time! D:

my raw food inspiration is this girl http://www.shazzie.com/raw/journal/
and this lady http://supernaturallife.com/bios.html scroll to sunyata amen

they were both vegans for years and switched over.. they dont have that bony face frail pale look but rosey cheeks and curves.. the sunyata lady i saw in person at a cooking class.. everything about her just looked healthy from her shiney hair to super whites in her eyes and was mega curvy

i dont know about all the way raw but at least 70% of your diet seems a good ratio.... some things taste better cooked like mushrooms and broccoli

Doesn't sashimi have rice? Rice is cooked.

That was my downfall... no bread, rice... blah... my diet lasted a whole two meals.

Sashimi doesn't have rice, it's just fish. Nigiri sushi and maki sushi have rice though. I can't do the no rice thing though, I'd be screwed on this diet.

aussie, what things have you seen that were gross/unsanitary in the fruit stall? I think that is relevant to this thread as people will be reading this and everyone must remember to dilligently wash their raw foods and also shop with a careful eye. Plus I love reading gross stories!

Aside from people picking their noses, sneezing/coughing into their hands before they pick up and handle the produce? How about the one guy at my local farmstand who would LICK the fruit to see if it was good enough?? Ewwwwwwwwwww.

Whole Foods is the best place to get produce and meats. It is organic--no preservatives-not fed animals-not tortured.

Well I keep trying the diet over and over...

Haha, I keep last one or two meals a day before I fall....

But at least I'm having one or two super healthy meals a day... >_>

PS: I can't figure out if pasteurization doesn't count. No milk... tea... bottled orange juice?
