    Default No Graduation WTF?

So I'm really happy to find out I'm graduating, but apparantly my school doesn't do one for the fall semester. What's up with that. Lord knows I've been working on this damned thing long enough. I want to walk across the stage- I've been dreaming of that moment for a long time. Even if it is only an AA degree.

I guess it gives me more incentive to finish my BA now.

Don't they let fall semester graduates participate in the spring ceremony? I believe that's what most schools do. Personally I think graduation ceremonies are over-rated. What really matters is that you have your degree. Throw yourself a party! Buy yourself something nice!

yeah, you could have marched last spring. most schools no longer have winter ceremonies; mine stopped doing that several years ago.

I graduated high school in the fall. I got no graduation, and then the school tried to list me as being a part of the following year's graduation class. Oi.

Eh, fuck it, I graduated in absentia (the prof who graded my thesis was off doing research somewhere, and didn't come back until after I had left for Austin).

I went to my SO's graduation at the same University before we left for Austin, and it was pretty boring. Actually I thought it was a bunch of bullshit, lol--and I value my degree quite highly indeed.

You are a smart and very charming woman. In order to feel special, you don't need some damned ceremony where you wear robes like zillions of other people and get a piece of paper with pretty writing on it like zillions of other people. The experience is what counts (of getting the degree).

Thanks guys. You're right. I really didn't think I was even going to make it- damned algebra, I'm just so happy I did make it.
I'm not going all the way back here just to walk.

There must be some way I can get that walking across the stage feeling.. hmmm... Anyone know where to get a sexy version of the cap and gown?

    Is that even possible?

    Cheers!

The walk is boring and not worth sitting through the whole ceremony. I walked when I got my BA just because my family really wanted it, but I didn't bother when I got my Master's. I got a lot more joy out of framing that expensive piece of paper and hanging it up! (Of course now, they're both collecting dust in a drawer.)

Congratulations on graduating! That's the real accomplishment.

What's an AA? Is that an associates? That isn't even a full degree. Just wait until you have your BA and walk then.

My undergrad ceremony was held in an audatorium with 50,000 other ppl. After I walked, my crew and I all jetted, it would have taken forever!!! Boring!

Yeah it's not as big an accomplishment as a BA- which I am pursuing, but damn! If you knew how long and hard I've struggled just to get that.

The BA will be more satisfying, I'm sure.

My school was the same way. They only offered graduation in the spring semester, and I finished up my degree requirements in the fall.

But I can do you one better...not only did my school neglect to have graduations in the fall, but they also neglected to give me my DIPLOMA in the fall, too! I patiently waited a few weeks after finals to make sure they received my grades and transcripts(because one of my last semester courses was taken for transfer credit at a different nearby college). Then I called to inquire about my diploma, and they were like, "Oh, we only print them once a year in May." I was like WTF? I earned my diploma, went through absolute hell and back working so hard to earn the money to pay tuition so I could receive my diploma, I want it!!! So May came along, and I did the same thing...waited a few weeks until all the graduation chaos/hoopla was over...and no diploma! Finally, I called them in June(a full month or so later!), and they said "Oh, we never printed it. We thought you were gonna call back." (aaaaaaargh!) So they told me that they would print it for me(in June) and mail it. I was like, "Wait a minute. You're able to print my diploma in June, AFTER everyone elses' got printed. But you couldn't print it back in December?" They tried to make some lame excuse. My school is notorious for having a really shitty administrative system that constantly fucks things up. And it's a small college too, so they don't have that many students to manage, at least not compared to most other colleges! I wonder if they were trying their hardest to postpone giving me the one thing that I wanted from my college after giving them my money, hard work, and good grades(my friends kinda think my school is sadistic like that).

NOTE: I never went to my graduation, and didn't plan to. The reason why, is because I was very ashamed and embarrassed of the fact that I had to postpone finishing my degree due to money issues. I was one class short before I had to drop out due to money issues! So I was afraid that I looked really stupid. When I couldn't afford my tuition, some ex-friends started gossiping and telling people that I'd "flunked out of college," or that I couldn't afford my tuition because I was "destitute," and other lies. I overall felt so unwanted there, because my college had a lot of pretentious snobs. I got so fed up with it all, that I just wanted to finish the requirements, get my diploma, and be able to block my college outta my life(I felt better about high school and middle school even!). That's also why I took a class at a nearby college in my last days before I finished my degree.

Oh one last thing about schools and their graduation ceremonies. Don't feel too bad. A lot of schools don't offer graduation dates that would accomodate their students. My Australian friend once told me that his school only offered graduation in May...now you might be thinking, "What's wrong with that? Most students graduate in May at the end of the schoolyear." But in Australia, the seasons are reversed, so the schoolyear actually goes from February to November, as opposed to the US's September to May. So the majority of the Australian students were graduating in November, but had to wait until May to walk in their own ceremony. It was very ass-backwards. My friend didn't even care to attend graduation, because he was more concerned about moving to America and travelling than to stay in his country for a few more months.
