Thread: how much longer do you plan to dance?

Default how much longer do you plan to dance?

...and what are you going to pursue afterward?

Inspired by the amusing "things to do when you retire from dancing" thread. And because this time of year, with everything slowing down and so many frustrated posts here on SW, it might be encouraging to remind ourselves of the big picture!

    So what are your plans?

I plan to do it for 7 more years. Maybe longer as it depends on who much I'll be making. As my earnings gradually increase every year now ...I dont know weighing out what I would be earning as an entry level scientist or making about 15-20K more per year. Hmmm..... only time will tell. I will however finish school with my bachelors in chemistry to have something to fall back on in case I decide I just dont want to do it anymore.

i guess i should reply to my own thread I've got a year and a half of undergrad left...and then off to the UK for (*fingers crossed*) an MSc in physiotherapy....another two years. So 3 1/2 years, "retiring" around 26 y/o.

To be honest, i'll probably end up dancing for a few months/half a year after finishing my grad degree. Just because I'll love it so much more knowing that i don't *have* to do it, i don't *need* to rely on this (often fickle) job to support myself or get through school.

I've got another 3 years left till I plan on starting a family. Then it all depends on how well my body bounces back from being preggo and how I feel about going back. There are a bunch of different things I could be doing so I guess we'll see.

As long as I can handle it! I'm a late bloomer, started at 30 which is normally when most women stop being that they started between 18-22 usually. When I started dancing back in May I told myself that I'd only do it for the summer to help me pay off the credit card, well now, it's almost January and have no intentions of leaving it anytime soon. I plan on starting a new business next year which dancing is going to fund it and even when that takes off I'll probably still work here and there for extra cash. There's nothing like having a job that you can work when you want and walk out with cash in your hands, I love it!!! $$$$$$$

As it stands right now, I plan on dancing as long as I can, save/invest tons of $$ and retire comfortably on a beach somewhere....

I've been doing it for about a year and a half and right now I work 4-5 days/week. In my off-work time I've been learning and training in stage management for shows. I hope that sometime in the next four years I will be getting paid for it and able to just do this for one day a week. But stopping? I don't really know. I already know that in about ten years I'll want my boobies lifted, and I'm sure I'll have to be dancing to do it.

At least through the end of college...which, depending on how many more times I change my major, will be at least another 3-4 years, possibly 7 or so (grad school). As for now, I like my job, and I like the hours. At some point I'd like to travel and dance, though not sure when that'll happen.

After your done dancing you finally realize the damage those 4" heels have on your knees. It took about 2 months before mine stop aching and I only danced for about 3 years. If I did it longer, I would probably be limping today.

What did I do? I got happy that I picked up a big paycheck, without having to hustle. I worked in a casino so, surprisingly guys just give you a tip. I went to school got licensed as CNA. I am currently going to school to be a RN (have to finish the science part first). Even though I like working as a CNA, and wouldn't go back to dancing. I still enjoyed most of the times I did it.

LOL nope my 1 year anniversary for dancing was Nov. 15th I've been a member on SW since 2002, so I have alot of "educational" training. Kinda like a kid in college and then you put them out in the corporate world upon graduation. I know the material, just have to apply the logic and gain experience

6-8 months. I am taking a real estate course and I want to get into bartending. I don't think I was cut out for dancing. But it was definetly an experience I'll never forget.

at least another year, hopefuly not too much longer after that. if i'm still doing it in 3 more years i'll be very dissapointed. there's nothing wrong with making a career out of it, that's just not -my- goal. however, i HAVE mulled over the thought of picking it back up part time if i'm still in shape and if i've moved to a state with a better SC environment (which i hope to do in a few years). i have a feeling i could enjoy myself a lot more if i were not dancing in tampa specificaly.

I play with this in my head all the time. Sometimes I think I want to be a Lifer.... other times I want to be a stay at home mom or a teacher, and quit asap.... It depends on the night!

In reality, I see myself dancing untill I've finished college (masters), and perhaps long enough to get a doctorate. I love the theatre, and I want to teach, at the community college/traditional college level. So I have at most 6-7 years left, retiring (for the most part) at 25-6ish. I'ld really like to be done dancing at 24 though........

I've been dancing for about 2 years, and I plan on dancing until I finish school in 2 years. Even after I finish school and get a job, I still will probably dance once in a while on weekends for extra "fun money."
