Default Why do we take it upon ourselves...

Is it for the sexual release? The quick cash, the club atmosphere, the drugs, the alcohol, the rush we get when men whorship us, etc. Why do we choose to go into a business with so much baggage applied to it. Why do we choose to sell our bodies rather than sit behind a desk all day. Why are you in this business? And don't worry, this isn't a judgemental post in the least, I'm just curious. I'm in it for the money, ease, and sexual release.

I don't know about you, but I don't sell myself. If you feel like you are, you're in the wrong business.

And I'm in it for the fun, attention and money.

Well men are paying for......our bodies. So we do sell ourselves, but not in the prostitute sense. They're paying to see our bodies, so we are selling ourselves.

How can you sell a product you never lose? Selling means someone else owns it. Nobody owns me.

Legal advice. Psychic readings. Personal advisers, etc. You can sell something that you never lose easily.

personaly, i've never gotten a "rush" from the attention and i certainly have never gotten a sexual "release". the only rush i get when dancing is on stage. i mean, it IS sexual and i do feel sexual when on stage, but i don't consider it a sexual "release". i love the feeling of being completely free when i dance. i love the performance, i love that people are able to share that feeling with me. that is my favorite part about dancing, besides the money and time i have for school. i also love meeting interesting people and talking to fun people... but the negative people i meet are far more abundant. i love being able to perform as someone's fantasy. i love entertaining people.

i was lazy and wanted to run around naked and get paid for that. now i'd rather just earn the same or more money with my clothes on, which is actually possible in my case.

but if i'd danced in places other than houston during my dancing-time, i might well still be doing club dancing. as it is, i will likely spend the new year on pole dancing and hopefully compete. so i've only really given up the hustling and the contact, heh.

i want to travel as much as possible, make my own schedule, be free in the afternoons to coach, and be financially capable of doing my own artwork on my own schedule without worrying about funding. shit, i want to be financially capable of doing whatever i want without asking anyone for a dime.

and i disagree, you aren't selling yourself. if you feel you are, you should rethink your job.

But you ARE selling your company, your dance and your time.

    Love it!

I definitely do it for the flexible schedule that will still cover the bills and then some because of school and a spontaneous social life.

    True, it's more like renting.

i think that every occupation involves selling yourself in one capacity or another. manual labourers are selling their bodies - in a physical working way, office workers sell themselves - their bodies, their brains. models are selling themselves - their bodies, their imagine etc.

I'm int for the money, flexibility, and I do love being a stripper. The hours allow me to be home when the kids need me, and take a vacation whenever I want.

    Yup.

Ok, so spend some time, your company, but wear a burlap sack that covers your body so it's not sexy in anyway. You'd still have your company, your dance for sure, but would you sell anything? I think not. Why? Well what's missing from the equation would be your body, which you are selling, which is selling yourself. I don't mean it in a prostitution way, but we are selling sexual appeal, which is our bodies.

No one accuses professional dancers, actors, models, or sports stars of "selling themselves", even though that's essentially what they're doing. It's selling a skill, one that you happen to perform with your body. It's the "sexiness" and "morality" factor that causes society to separate us from them.

I dance because of the flexibility. I love that I control how much money I make(usually)I work harder I make more. The attention feeds the cheesy girl in me that loves to giggle at a every compliment. I get to be sexy and flirtatious where in real life Im quite shy.

If that's how you feel about it, then it's time for a long break. Or retirement.

Personally, I felt like more of a whore when I was waitressing and when I had a corporate desk job, but that's just me.

You're not selling yourself, you're selling a service.

And, if truth be told, I am totally different ITC, so even if I were selling my person, it would be a completely different person than who I really am anyway.

    I totally agree with that.

I do it for the flexibility, because i can work 30hrs a week and make double what someone in a desk job working 45hrs a week, 5 days a week would make. I also do it cos i love to be my own boss.

But what is the service you're selling? Your body. It's not a bad thing like it seems to be going over in the boards. A lot of people do it from athletes to models to construction workers, we just do it in a sexual sense. It's not like they own us or take us home at night, but we are making bank due to our bodies, which we sell to make that bank. Without our bodies we wouldn't be paid, even with the company, etc. So how can it be that you arn't selling your body?

You are not actually selling your body. You are using your body as an ad to sell the actual service, which is your time.

I don't think the others you mentioned sell their bodies either. To pick a few out of your list, athletes are paid for playing and models are paid for helping to sell a product.

Our bodies are advertisements for the actual service of hanging with them, dancing for them etc.

I became a dancer because I was tired of living paycheck to paycheck with my full-time day job, and I love to perform. I enjoy both my night time job and my career.

We are selling our time/dances with 75 percent visual stimuation, IE, our bodies. 25 percent with audio and how you act around the customer.

Right, but in your OP, you stated that we are selling our bodies...the actual body being the product. And that's just not true for some of us.

Take me for instance. I only dance on stage, no lapdances. I sit and talk with customers and allow absolutely no touching of my person.

What is it that I'm selling? My stage show and my time. I use my body as the ad. It certainly is not the product.

I wouldn't even say that those who do perform lapdances are selling their bodies. They are selling the dance or the private time that the customer gets with her. Again, definitely not her body. Still a service.

And to answer your question as to why I do it? Because I'm a big ol' ham and I love attention. It isn't about the money or I'd be doing dances. It's a night out with the girls (we're all close at my club) on somebody else's dime.

You can sell something without it being touched or taken, just seen, take a movie for example, they're selling you something visually without even being touched.
