Default warning:do not gamble earnings away

yeah so i just came out to vegas and did pretty well last night, although i wound up working til 12 or 1 pm....so what do i do? freakin gamble a bit over 200 dollars tonight. im am so stupid. its totally my fault too. i was being really eratic with my betting - almost like i didnt care to lose the money i had worked hard for. i just threw it all down even though i had a feeling going into the night that i wouldnt make out. uuuuuugggghhhhuurrrrrrrrgggg now i have to go to work and do it all over again just to make up for the money i lost. expenses are huge here cause i have to cover rental car hotel and sherriffs card, hair makeup nails tanning food...plane ticket...so hopefully this taught me not to get carried away. i am in vegas to make money!! not to feed the casinos pockets. can someone help me feel better about this? its not alot of money.....right? lol.any gamblers on stripperweb?

It's the way of Vegas. Either learn to count cards or expect to lose money. I suppose some people find it hard to quit after that next bet. I probably would if I was legal to gamble. Don't feel bad about it. Everyone does it in Vegas.

    recovering

the thrill is dying since I've lost so many times in a row, but I will admit that I get sucked in occasionally, especially if I'm in a casino.

Know how much you're comfortable losing before you go and if you hit a run, get the fuck out.

But then if everyone did that, they wouldn't have all that shiny marble and pretty lights everywhere.

As long as you don't make a habit out of it, you'll be fine.

Hey, I lost $10K last month, if it makes you feel better (depression bender from personal shit, NEVER AGAIN!). I won $25K in September, but still...

You know what's odd? I went to a casino five days in a ROW one week... and made at LEAST $200 per day each time I did it after work starting with a $50 bet. (But I play the best odds... blackjack.)

And I quit... came in again two weeks later and lost $400... that'll learn me.

im a gambler! last cruise emily and i spent it in the casino, but she is recovering as she doesn't do the AC trips anymore. but i do! yea, that's why i couldnt live in AC or Vegas. i'd gamble way to freakin much.

but im with lillith morrigan, i play blackjack, bet the odds, if im losing too much consistently, i get up. if i was you, i'd be OUT of casinos until you have a good chunk of change built up. and yea, actually, youaren't a nut blaming him. he brought bad gambling karma your way! you have to be in the right mode to be there. i don't gamble wiht my bf for that reason, we play different games when we go. he just brings me badddd betting karma.

    Love it!

casinopro, where do you deal cards?i think karma cant change the cards persay but ....its all about your state of mind.... if u have a feeling u are going to lose and u gamble anyway u wont make the best decisions and jeopardize urself...... its my fault for betting all my money quickly and erratically. i didnt stand a chance UNLESS luck would have really stepped in and saved me. IM SO UPSET about this .they say never chase a loss.

see, that's how they get you! Who gambles when they "feel" like they are going to lose? yet, people do.

There is no feeling or karma, only statisitcs and real numbers. How can the cards know anything?

I do %s in blackjack... usually I find a table that doesn't have an automatic shuffle because then the dealer takes a lot longer before shuffling the cards so I can do percentages. I always ask the number of decks..

Then I count cards. Oh yes, I do. I figure out what everyone has, what's been played already, what is most likely to be under the dealer.... blackjack is a game of percentages.

I can't STAND gambling where I don't know my odds... If I see 10 aces on a 3-deck table and I have a two fives... I ain't gonna think I'll be getting an ace.

Shit example, but you know what I mean.

But when it comes to automatic shufflers.. yeah I fail.

The thing with black jack is you never know whats under the dealers up card. Thats why the house wins so often. You have to hit to try and get to at least 17 when we have a face card up. Problem is we have just as much of a chance of having a 2-3-4-5-6 as we do of having 7-8-9-10-j-q-k. I swear I bust on more of my face cards up then when I have a 6 up.

I dealt the other day to a young kid who would not hit his 12's or 13's when i HAD A FACE CARD UP. The whole table was getting pissed at him. However he walked away winning over 300 bucks and he only bought in for 60. As far as odds go I would say about every 30 players that sit down at my table maybe 1 of them walks away winning.

Yes but the 10,j,kq... all of them equal ten... so your percentages are NOT the same. You have an equal chance yes... but your chances of getting a 10 are the highest. If you play with half the cards yet to be shuffled and make sure to WATCH THE CARDS, you can tell what should be, bases on percentages, under the dealers up card. If a shitload of tens were played recently and the dealer has an A face up and I know there's only about 3 tens (including faces) left in the deck... I know the chances of him having a blackjack are very low, so I won't insure.

It's counting like that that wins ya.

Edit: Of course that means you have to pay REALLY close attention and count how many cards of each were played... but if you want to win, that's how you do it.

I'm ahead over 3k at my local casino even counting the ONE time I lost... so I must be doing something right.

I would say you were more lucky than anything. I would even go as far as to a challenge of letting you write down the cards in a 6 deck game and you would not be able to know whats underneath.

I wouldn't KNOW anything... it's simple mathematics. I can tell, by percentages, what is MOST LIKELY to be the card under the dealer's. Percentages say it's a 10, usually. But if you watch the cards closely, all the tens could have been used in the first 5 or 6 deals.. then why are you still assuming it's a ten?

I don't need to write them down... I have counting and pattern OCD.. that's the only reason I'm good at this game.. it's all a giant pattern with percentages and chances and numbers. When I'm dealt a hand I know my PERCENTAGE of winning... if it's high enough, I know to continue.. if it's too low, I know not to.

It's just all maths. That's what blackjack is.

And I've totally hijacked this thread. No more.

I'm in the same boat when I go to Vegas. I'm a gambler too. (Just lost last weekend in PR.. damnit. Not more than my budget allowed for at least).

I work like a fiend till I have my trip paid for. Then I allow some gambling time. If I lose it, I lose it. At least I don't need to stress about paying back AMEX for the trip you know?

If I'm not too broke (and doing the above situation where I charge the trip and 'make it back') I'll save up and pay trip in full, then I really don't stress about losing some $$$. Whatever I make is like bonus time!

I always budget more into my shopping than into my gambling though. I'd rather walk away with something other than the memories of an enternaining hour or two.

If you walk out of Vegas, with only $200 loss, then you are a WINNER. I have lost more than that before checking into my room. Just stay away from the Casino point blank. If you have a little habit, take your money to the bank and get some cashier checks, money orders or something and mail them home. That way whatever you do in Vegas there is money waiting for you when you get home.

I agree completly with lilith. And so does my boyfriend who is also a dealer/pit boss for a major casino out here. My bf also loves to gamble, and does VERY well, by counting and using the same methods Lilith described. Sure, you dont actually KNOW what the dealer has, but you can get a close enough idea to decide weather you should bet up or bet down. A lot of it is luck. A lot of it is just getting a good run on a good deck. But you can definatly increase your winnings by just paying attention to whats out there, and betting accordingly.

The best way to gamble, in my opinion, and the way we do it is, decide before going out how much we are going to spend. We assume that money will be lost, and we are ok with that. then we spend it. Some nigths, it sucks, and we go home broke in 15 mintes. Other nights, we gamble all night and go home broke. That is concidered a good night. If we actually got to spend a night out and have fun, get free drinks, well, its not a loss, cause we decided before hand to spend that money anyway. And if we go home with more than we left the house with...score!!

Both Kaylinn and POV are right on the money.

In the last few years, I've learned to pay my hotel bill immediately with any winnings even if it's like a $100 or $150. So the last few trips, I've paid my hotel bill before I've left Vegas that way I only have to worry about the food and play $$$$/bill remaining. Kind of a pay as you go vacation.
