    Default Life after Death...

I am so thrilled for VG's new boy of joy, Adrian.

I am also extremely sad to announce the passing of a good friend of mine, Jeremiah. He was a gifted writer and wonderful person. He was one of my favorite people in my life. He always had a smile on his face and made people laugh. He made me smile and laugh. I will miss him so dearly.

I'm not sure if any of you believe in reincarnation, but if you do, for VG and Scorpio, I hope he came back in Adrian. You guys will have a wonderful person to share your lives with...

I'm sorry to hear of your loss.

I was just thinking of a mentor of mine who passed early this year. I keep praying he'll choose to be reborn in this world- he was a pillar of the community & a very respected person, even if he was too humble to believe it. He is sorely missed.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. It must be hard, dealing with the loss of a loved one, though i must say that i found your post to be a little...creepy. Just my opinion.
I do believe reincarnation is probable.

    Um...what?
What is strange about it? People have sex.

She's just saying - in terms of the reincarnation topic - that it seemed so closely timed that the man who died's best friend's baby may body the spirit of the man who died - since they were so close.

... i like to think of the person always being around me and even "in" me ... in the air I breathe... and so forth... they become "one" with everything and thus everyone including me... hence they are always with me....

I personally don't believe in re-incarnation as you have to believe time is linear in order to believe in it and I do not believe such... time isn't linear. The past and present exists at the same time... so I believe in con-current lives that share similiarities and hence the reason we have "flashes" past lives etc...

ok.. i'm getting a little deep here...

I haven't come to a firm conclusion on what I beleive in regards to the above discussed, but I do see probablilities in reincarnation, and in what you suggested GCG, among others....I'm still doing some searching for myself as to what specifically I beleive regarding the afterlife.

I believe in reincarnation. Here's one instance for me:

Delia was born on the very same day, at the very same time, that my Husband's Grandfather passed away 15 years before. Looking in my Almanac on the day she was born (2003), the entry was:

    "The lost is found."

So, Delia's birthday is very special to his family.

I do not know what I believe. I guess I will find out for sure one day! I'd like to think that something happens, that your spirit goes somewhere, as my boyfriend just thinks you are worm food, end of story. I dont think I agree with that, but since I dont know what I believe, I really can't argue with him.....

Whatever you choose to believe in. Do it because it gives you hope and makes you smile.

It's instances like this that prove that no matter what the answer may be, life is about living the question. The true answer matters very little.

    From a discussion group:

    >>One of the technical problems with reincarnation is that there are more people alive today than have ever died. :-O

    >>>At October 02, 2006 6:56 PM,

Actually, the belief that 'there are more people alive today than have ever died' is simply not true. If we assume that the average lifespan throughout history was between 40 and 50 years (and for much of history it was actually a lot less - like 30), and if we also assume that humanity (homo sapiens) has been around for 100,000 years (a conservative estimate to say the least), plus taking into consideration estimates by historians and demographers that the earth in 1820 had one billion people, in 1920 2 billion and so on, then take into consideration that the current population is just over 6 billion (don't have an exact figure, but then again who does?) - well, anyway, my point is that this has all been worked out, and as it turns out the number of people who are calculated to have died thus far exceeds the number who are alive today (by a very wide margin). Which makes perfect sense when you think about it, because even the people who were alive just as recently as the year 1900 are all dead now (with a few rare exceptions of course). The population in 1900 was approximately 1.8 to 2 billion, so there you already have one quarter of the current figure. The world total a couple of generations or so before this (let's say between 1830 and 1850) would have been about 1.4 to 1.5 billion, and they (the vast majority anyway) would have been dead by 1900 - remember life expectancies were MUCH lower than it is today - about 50 years if you were lucky in 1850.
All of this is beside the point anyway if it is reincarnation that you are trying to discredit, because (and this must be really obvious to anyone who has seriously thought about it), if we assume that reincarnation is real (and I'm not saying that it is), then logic would necessarily dictate that there are many individuals who are in their very first incarnation. That is, they have never lived before, this is their first life. After all, the process has to begin somewhere, at some point in time. So this 'technical problem' is nothing of the sort, it is an imaginary problem.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. I can relate. I just lost someone close to me recently, too. An ex-boyfriend of mine did some stupid out-of-character things and unfortunately it had some very bad consequences. I've actually heard of a lot of deaths recently, such as my friend's friend who died from brain cancer(she was middle age with a family; they went to church together). Or my friend's friend's fiance, who died in a car accident. 2006 has been a kinda depressing year, because I lost TWO people that were young and very close to me, and I keep hearing about other people going through the same things. I hope that 2007 is a little better. I am very sorry about what happened, and if your friend's spirit was reincarnated, that would be a great thing indeed.

The Existentialists have a wonderful saying: "None of us is getting out of here alive!"

Personally, I would like an afterlife a la Albert Brooke's "Defending your life." That kitten I saved and that drunk needy woman I did NOT sleep with would be on my highlight reels.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I am no stranger to losing loved ones. The pain in our minds seems to be worse then pysical pain when a loved one dies.

I believe the loved ones are as though they are sleeping, and to wake up one day again!

    This gives me hope.

It's a truism, Kiki, but time does heal. You just need to be patient and, as you already have, reach out for support. You'll always miss him, of course, but the pain you feel this moment will lessen over time. Take care.

When I feel sad about the departed, I tell myself, "I am selfish in my grief." It stops me from dwelling on how the loss makes me feel, & makes me think of ways to do something that the departed would have wished for....like look after his or her loved ones, or do charity work/donations in their name...or even go do something you both used to enjoy but now you're doing it for the both of you...

I know not everyone here believes in an Afterlife, but I feel lucky to come from a culture where Death is not the end but a new beginning. My relatives in Mexico never speak of the departed as "dead" instead they say, "He's with God now..." or "passed away." I think a lot of troubles in North America come from our culture's lack of connectedness to the earth/spirituality.

Time does heal all wounds. But time doesn't erase the fact that you knew a great person, even if that person is not right in front of you anymore.
