I always thought that would be a great idea for my bf and I to do together. Are you going by yourself or with a friend, bf? Either way if you have the time definetly do it. You could meet some cool new people and learn some great handy things!

I never have. I'm a great cook and I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, but I think I learned by just doing it. Taking a class could probably save you years of experimentation, LOL!

I always wanted lessons in cooking knife usage, and presentation. Other than that I'm pretty good, although my father and even my mother did a good job of teaching me to cook. Mom hates cooking, but she does a dam good job, and gets everything cooked together.

Me and wifey are taking French cooking in January.
I do pretty well but I need technique.
We do Cuban, French, Italian... and crock pot.

If by lessons you mean having it drilled into you by your sweet yet hardass Grandmother.. Then, yes.. LOL

(I learned how to cook, crochet, etc... At FIVE years old, from her. But that's how we Sicilians do it, yo.)

LOL I have a scar on my wrist from learning to make Rosettes. (Gotta love that hot pan full of OIL!). I cried and cried. My Grandmother told me to suck-it-up and keep moving. LOL

I make them every Holiday Season, though. They rock!

    I haven't...but I'm not that into cooking, anyways...LOL

Now, Joe...I've considered gifting him with some cooking classes. He loves to cook...and he makes the best damn food.

The difference between him and I is this:

If I walk into the kitchen and there is only one bag of noodles, 1 can of tuna and a carton of Orange Juice, I mix the tuna with the noodles and set out a glass of orange juice. Joe will use the same ingredients and make a gourmet meal. Bastard. LOL

Which is why he does a lot of the cooking around here. heehee

Oh no, lol! Yeah, I have fond memories of standing over huge pans of meatballs and learning the secret of making an extra batch so people can have one before they go into the sauce.

I've taken some one-day cooking classes (Essential Knife Skills, Paella, Braising) here and there, they're great fun. If you have a culinary school in your area, they often offer recreational classes. If there isn't one nearby, some cooking equipment stores (think Sur La Table and Williams Sonoma, my Eden and Shangri-La, respectively) sometimes offer classes too.

But what I'm really looking forward to is March: my mom and I are planning to attend Culinary Boot Camp at CIA. They describe it as a week of Basic Training - 6 months of cooking skills crammed into one week, 7 am to 9 pm every day. Call me a masochist, but I cannot WAIT! I even bought us matching camouflage aprons.

Joe. He makes amazing mixes, wins the heart of a drop dead gorgeous woman, produces beautiful offspring . . . AND he cooks? Is there anything he CAN'T DO?

(And I don't want to hear about his prowess in the sack, VG, I may just die of envy.)

Actually one of our homes had this and it was nothing but a pain in the ass. It had a cover so it could be used as a counter top... heavy as hell. Everything got smoky even with the use of an air extractor, and then of course was the cleaning.

Build your self a lean to of some nature and keep it outside. You just need enough protection to make sure you don't get drenched/weathered while cooking or going back and forth. I also suggest a Light, and stopwatch for cooking in the winter darkness.
