    Default Phophetic Song lyrics

Are there any lyrics from older songs in your collection which are at least a little phrophetic as to their lyrics? This can be either in your personal life, or in the world in general. I can't think of one for my life in general, but as to world events, this song, "The Envoy," was included on a Warren Zevon CD released, iirc, in 1972. This is the first verse,

"Nuclear arms in the Middle East
    Israel is attacking the Iraqis
The Syrians are mad at the Lebanese
And Baghdad does whatever she please
Looks like another threat to world peace
    For the envoy"

The first line, in particular, seems relevant today(along with the Syrian/Lebanese line), even though the song was written almost 35 years ago. Or is it just an example of the old cliche', "The more things change, the more they stay the same."?

Well as a matter of fact I think this one sums it up in a nutshell; Punk and funk got together when John Lydon and Afrika Bambaataa formed "Time Zone". Here be the lyrics to their 1984 release "World Destrution" -

This is a world destruction, your life ain't nothing
The human race is becoming a disgrace
Countries are fighting with chemical warfare
Not giving a damn about the people who live

Nostradamus predicts the coming of the Antichrist
Hey, look out, the third world nations are on the rise
    The Democratic-Communist Relationship,
won't stand in the way of the Islamic force

The CIA is looking for you
The KGB is smarter than you think
Brainwash mentalities to control the system
Using TV and movies - religions of course

Yes, the world is headed for destruction
    Is it a nuclear war?
    What are you asking for?

    This is a world destruction
    Your life ain't nothing
The human race is becoming a disgrace
    The rich get richer
    The poor are getting poorer
    Fascist, chauvinistic government fools

    People, Moslems, Christians and Hindus
Are in a time zone just searching for the truth
Who are you to think you're a superior race?
    Facing forth your everlasting doom

    We are Time Zone
We've come to drop a bomb on you

    World destruction, kaboom, kaboom, kaboom!

This is the world destruction, your life ain't nothing
The human race is becoming a disgrace
Nationalities are fighting with each other
    Why is this?
    Because the system tells you
    Putting people in faceless categories
Knowledge isn't what it used to be
Military tactics to control a nation
Who wants to be a president or king?
    Me!
Mother Nature is gonna work against you
Nothing in your power that you can do

Yes, the world is headed for destruction
You and I know it, cause the Bible tells you
If we don't start to look for a better life,
the world will be destroyed in a time zone!

Orwellian prophetic?? Common sense?? Good drugs?? I don't know other than this song still kicks arse 20+ years later.

I noticed "Comfort Eagle" by Cake was banned from radio the day after September 11th 2001. It was written way before then & released summer 2001 (s/t album.) It seems to be full of very creepy "references" to the events of September 11th ("We are building a religion...you can meet at his location but you better come with cash...../...fluffy white lines the airplane leaves behind/...castles turn to sand/...The wacky morning deejay says democracy's a joke")....I wouldn't be suprised if John McCrea got a visit from some humorless G-men in dark suits....

he eastern world, it is exploding
    Violence flarin’, bullets loadin’
You’re old enough to kill, but not for votin’
You don’t believe in war, but what’s that gun you’re totin’
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin’

    But you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
    Ah, you don’t believe
    We’re on the eve
    of destruction.

Don’t you understand what I’m tryin’ to say
Can’t you feel the fears I’m feelin’ today?
If the button is pushed, there’s no runnin’ away
There’ll be no one to save, with the world in a grave
[Take a look around ya boy, it's bound to scare ya boy]

    And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
    Ah, you don’t believe
    We’re on the eve
    of destruction.

Yeah, my blood’s so mad feels like coagulatin’
    I’m sitting here just contemplatin’
I can’t twist the truth, it knows no regulation.
Handful of senators don’t pass legislation
And marches alone can’t bring integration
    When human respect is disintegratin’
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin’

    And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
    Ah, you don’t believe
    We’re on the eve
    of destruction.

Think of all the hate there is in Red China
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama
You may leave here for 4 days in space
But when you return, it’s the same old place
The poundin’ of the drums, the pride and disgrace
You can bury your dead, but don’t leave a trace
Hate your next-door neighbor, but don’t forget to say grace
And… tell me over and over and over and over again, my friend
    You don’t believe
    We’re on the eve
    Of destruction
Mm, no no, you don’t believe
    We’re on the eve
    of destruction.

OH OH OH Bad Religion's Skyscraper... released WELL before 9/11... very interesting, some good (bad?) foreshadowing there.
