    Default Pilates

Does any one take pilates classes? I am going to my class, by myself, on tuesday, and I was wondering what to expect. Will it be weird if I go by myself? I have never done it before so will it be hard to get the hang of things? I don't really know too much about the gym, or the people who go there (it wasn't too busy the day I went there with my mom to buy my membership). I was just hoping someone could possibly give me a generalization of what will happen. Thank you.

What kind of pilates? i'm assuming it's a mat class, where you do exercise on a floor without special equipment. i could be wrong, you could be on a machine.

As with any class, it's all dependent on the instructor. It's important that you understand what's happening, even if you can't do all the exercises. It took me months before I could really keep up. If you get confused, try to just focus on listening, watching and understanding. If you CANNOT UNDERSTAND THE INSTRUCTOR (which is different from just not being able to follow), then I would suggest trying a different one.

I would even suggest just watching the first time in class. See if the instructor gives clear instruction, gives modifications, and gives tips like "if you have a lower back problem, please use this modification..." Talk to the instructor beforehand and let her know of any major issues you have (back injury, knee problems, etc).

As with anything, don't expect to be able to follow the class completely the first time. Unless you have strong core muscles, it will be hard for you, and you may not be able to do them all. My 2 cents.

As in any class...if you have any physical limitations, you should let the instructor know ahead of time (at the beginning of the class).

But, everything that kittenkat said is pretty right on.
