Maybe not but sometimes something different is good so I thought I'd through it out there.

I just sorta stubbled upon those two while back and adored it! I was looking for some practice music on I-tunes one day b/c I've been teaching myself to bellydance with instructional videos and attending a local class here and there. It's way different than the other forms of dance I've done but in good way!

THANK YOU for mentioning The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove! It's been years since I've heard that song.. That's one that goes on my personal mix!

Another pretty mainstream song with a middle eastern vibe is "Work That" by Chas..

First one is going to be the dance mix of Sarah Brightman's "Harem". Aside from that, I'm drawing a blank. I did a few searches on Limewire and found a lot of pure middle eastern music, but nothing that will work. The tricky thing is, in our club even for theme sets it has to be somewhat mainstream dance-type theme stuff. Straight-out middle eastern music most likely won't be approved.

If I get desperate, I might use the dance mix of "buttons" by the pussycat dolls; it's got arabian instrumentation and all, and would work...but that's not very original, esp. since everyone plays that all the time for normal stage sets.

    Anyone have any suggestions?
I thought of another piece of music that I have used myself several years ago.... it's an instrumental piece by the Beastie Boys called "Eugene's Lament" and can be found on their Ill Communications CD......it's the perfect length for a 2/3 song set too because it's just a hair over 2 min. long.

It's very middle eastern sounding, imho, and not something people would expect from the Boys either which to me makes it double cool.

I'm also chiming in with Katrine on "The Ubiquitous Mr. L." After reading the original post, my immediate thought was Dead Can Dance in general. I've always wanted to dance to "Ariadne", if I could work it into the right mix, it could work . . . anyway, do check out Dead Can Dance.

Check out www.radiobastet.com for LOTs of classic belly dance music (some is popularized), probably nothing from later than the 90s.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

Ah, I love bastet. She is awesome for doing the podcasts. Most of it is classic though, and won't play well to a SC crowd.

    No mention of Panjabi MC?

Thought everyone heard of "Mundian to Bach Ke" (Beware of the Boys) (?)

Note to all--get thee hence to the second link, and get that song, ASAMFP!

I use it every night to bring Lana (AKA 'The Living Doll') onstage for her first set. She is as fine a dancer as I have ever worked with, though there have been maybe a dozen who were/are as good--including Ella at the same club. You could ask for no better song for her. The combination is devastating.

    Thanks again, evan_essence!

You are probably right. Apparently my taste in music, even to strip by, is so far from "bar mainstream", that, after drunks and smoking, that is my least favorite part of the strip-club scene.

Melvis and Bracksley, Panjabi MC was the first thing I thought of as well!!!

Also, Dan the Automator did a series of Bhangra remixes, you might try listening, and seeing if something fits your interest!
