Thumbs down Ugh, I can't wait...

For my Accutane treatment to be over with already. Just a rant here. I have two more months to go. I'm doing a 5 month treatment. This shit is making very very, lazy and sleepy. It's insane. Everything else as far as my health, is fine.

I even started drinking coffee again to see if I can stay alert and nope. It's super hard for me to wake up in the morning since I have a regular day job. All I want to do is sleep all day. I can't concentrate either. I'm having a hard time remembering things too. Oh, and ohhhhhhh is my vag super dry. I can't get wet. Sex isn't fun dammit. But it's temporary, so thank goodness.

I'm planning on dancing again(waa-hoo ), but I can't until this stuff is done with. I need to get stripper'ied. In my condition right now, there's no way I can. It makes me moody, grouchy, lazy and tired. No tanning(body only), no gym, eating crappy/ Who the hell would want a moody/emotional stripper around too. LOL. I'll pass out on stage, dangling on the pole. lol. It's that bad. I can't wait til this shit is done. Hurry up February.

On the bright side, skin looks fab.

At age 19, I took it for 2 months, was supposed to go 3. That was enough. Why do you need 5?

    Thank you Doll.

Katrine, that's the average time they give most ppl. I'm actually glad it's not 6! I've heard of ppl going on 6 months, and I can't imagine. My dose isn't much either, it's 40 mgs. I think it's perfect for my height/weight.

Edit: Was two or three months enough for you?

I'm curious about this.... do they just give you the script for a few months and then your acne is better permanently? How does that work?

Well, the medication is prescribed to those who get persistant cystic acne. As far as it getting better permanently, that would depend on the person. For some, it can take one treatment or two. OR none, out of luck.

Good luck Vy, be very careful with accutane, it has some nasty side effects ( like suicidal tendencies/thoughts ) Hopefully your side effects improve, cuz that stuff sounds miserable. Glad the face is fab though

It really messed me up, dried my skin and hair badly. My hair was thin and falling out, my skin was so dry I busted a blood vessel blowing my nose one day when I had a cold. A few years later, zits came back, although they aren't too bad.

but I didn't have a single piece of bacne for some years!

Not to sound naive (I'm sure you've tried everything), but just to say, spironolactone has been my god send for acne. I was breaking out badly when I was 19-20, out of nowhere, and spirono made it go away 100%. Now my only problem is dry skin at times. It really made my skin the opposite of what it used to be.

Oh, wow...I haven't had any major affects. The only thing that's really dry is my mouth and my hoo-haa. My hair got a little thin(but that'll go back to normal), but it looks like I have more bc it's less oily. It looks good.

Molly, Spironolactone is a BC pill right? I want to try to avoid bc pills. I'll keep that in mind incase I change my mind. Oh yeah, i've tried everything.

I'm also thinking about getting my hormones checked, and if needed acupuncture treatment. I know my acne is hormornal too. I get flares right before my period.

^^No, it's not birth control. It's this weird little pill that combats excess male hormones or something...originally designed for high blood pressure I think. It's got no side effects that I've noticed, except I think it made me boobier. I asked my doctor about it and she got me a perscription (but I'm also polycystic ovarian, so that could be why...it helps that too).

You can google it...it's an "antiandrogen", but not a birth control pill. They called it a 'synthetic steroid'. It works really well for me, and although my boobs are a little fuller from it (I think), it's otherwise unlike bc. I am also on birth control, but my birth control alone wasn't enough to prevent my acne. Spironolactone did the trick real nicely though.

Molly, Did you notice any side effects other than your boobs getting bigger? What about weight gain? Is that a common side effect as well?

I actually have some here and whenever I have taken it my boobs feel very full & heavy and a bit sore, and I have to pee A LOT.
How long do you have to take it to get rid of acne? I would love to give it a shot but I'm terrified of weight gain.
I was on Yasmin which contains Spirno and my skin was SO clear but the side effects of the birth control were too much for me. So if the spiro alone would work without the side effects that would be amazing.

^^^Yeah, it's a diuretic, so peeing happens a lot in the beginning, but that goes away. No weight gain. Weight loss, if anything, because it sloughs off the excess water. And it took about a week and a half for the acne to go away. Fast!

I was too scared to try accutane, but I rarely got acne cysts.
The only thing that worked for me (tried every topical) is that cheap Persagel from Walmart, but good lord at the dry skin I had, plus it seems I'll have to use this stuff forever.
I really do hope you get to feeling better soon. At least you realize it's the meds that are making you that way.

Awesome. I'm going to give it a try then. Thanks for all the info
