Default are all clubs this harsh???

I had a emergency and i couldn't go in to work today! I call management and tell them I wouldn't be able to make it!
They ask "whats the emergency" I tell them my car broke down and I need a jump. I'm in Delaware the clubs in philly! It's no way i can get there for my shift!the manager tells me that's your own problem!!!

I'm like OK what does that mean? He says If it happens again your fired!!!!

It took alot for me not to show my a#$ ,I'm fired for something out of my control happening to me!
I'm new and I have been making more money than girls who have been there for years!!!! I'm very pleasent to work with, keep to myself, always on time when others stroll in 30mins to a hour late! Also I class the place up a little or so the custies tell me!
I always keep my makeup touched up, nails and feet manicured and pedicured! I just don't understand why he came at me like that!

Maybe other girls have an issue with you, and he's tight with them? For example, if you act superior (as some new girls tend to do) they may not like you so much. Try to be low key at work, and there's no guarentee you make more, unless you actually count their $$

I think in most clubs, even the good ones so to speak, whether you are Anna Nicole when she was a fatass or Pamela Anderson, you are disposable and they care about two things - having girls to fill the stage and money in their pockets. Whether it be Anna or Pam that prevents any form of the previous from happening in the slightest, they're ganna treat you as disposable as women are in this business, lamely enough.

No, not all clubs are like that. And I'm gonna give you some bad advice...sometimes I've found that it is better to simply not show up, than to call out!(unless your club has strict no-show policies) If you simply don't show up, odds are they won't really notice(unless you work dayshift and you are one of the few girls on shift), and you will avoid all the drama. If the manager was mean, maybe he was simply having a bad day and took it out on you. That, or maybe there were a LOT of girls calling out on that particular day.

I actually had that exact problem at CVS!! Same situation, except the girl assistant manager yelled a lot more than your manager did. She literally screamed into the phone that I was DEFINITELY getting written up, and if I did that again I would be gone. At first, I couldn't believe my ears that she would yell so unprofessionally like that, so I said "I'm sorry?" in the same way that someone would say "I beg your pardon?" and she hung up on me! All that, for a stupid $7/hr job that refused to give me more than 10 hrs/week because I was "overqualified"!(their exact words) I ended up simply not showing up for work there anymore, because it was stupid and not worth it. The ONLY reason I even worked there, was in hopes of getting moved up to supervisor or pharmacy tech, which they seemed reluctant to do since I was so "overqualified" and at such high risk of leaving the company(geez, I'm glad they thought I had such a great chance of getting a better job; now where were all those job offers or even job interviews again?). But if I was getting written up and put on the manager's monstrous side, then there was no chance of a promotion ever happening! So I thought "fuck that" and got a dime-a-dozen $8/hr job somewhere else.

Do all clubs in Philly work on schedules? If they don't, maybe go somewhere where you work when you want to???

I waitressed at a club for a very short time in Corpus Christi, and there is no fuckin way in hell I would have danced there. The main manager literally drug the girls into the "office" for a "meeting" every hour - for like 20 minutes - of him SCREAMING, I mean bellowing at the top of his lungs about how shitty everyone was and how they all needed to lose weight and they looked like a bunch of stupid disgusting animals out there and that no wonder none of them were making money because they were so disgusting. It almost made me throw up. He did it to the waitresses on a different level. I got the hell outta there after almost gettin shot.

*sorry got off on a tangent there - just pointing out that there are random managers who will be dickholes for no reason.

I work in philly, and i've never had a problem when calling out. (Which i've done a few times for various reasons.) I don't have a written schedule for this week so i'm just working when i want. (Friday and saturday because i don't think it will be worth it to go in tonight)
On a side note my managers have all been super cool with me so far (about 2 months) but i've heard them be nasty to other girls.

it also has to do with the fact that you're new. it sucks to be judged by other girls actions, but strip club managers have to deal with a TON of irresponsible girls. if they don't know you and you've already started calling in, they're likely to think you're "too much trouble" to deal with. i would just explain, when you go in next, that you understand the importance of showing up for your shift, but you were unable to. if you're mature about it, there's a good chance they will be too. if they blow you off again though, i'd look for a new club. i can virtualy call in whenever i want because i don't do it too often and because my managers KNOW me now. a girl with the same excuse who's only worked there a short period of time might not get the same treatment. i can call out on a sceduled day because i "dont feel like working" but a newer girl would probably get canned for it.

It's all so arbitrary. I was the most reliable and level-headed dancer at my last club and the nitwit manager fired me for having a yeast infection (he thought it was contagious and he said none of the other girls would want to go onstage after me). The fortunate thing is that firings don't really stick in strip clubs. If he fires you, just wait a week or so and then call and ask if you can come back. Most of the time they'll say yes.

What clubs do you Philly girls work at? I'm new too (started at Risque about 6 weeks ago) and it's been pretty good but I have a hard time getting there on time (have a day job) so they charge me a late fee, but haven't complained to me about it yet. I'm okay with paying the late fee, I just don't want to end up getting fired or anything because I am late. I am usually not super late, just eough to get charged a late fee! They require me to work at least 3 nights a week (I was hoping for only 2 because I have my other job, a boyfriend who isn't too happy with the stripping to begin with, and my body can't handle that much work sometimes). We also have to do at least 2 Saturdays and 2 Sundays per month, plus we all had to do one holiday out of New Years Eve and New Years Day. I chose New Years Eve and I hope I can get my ass out of there early enough so I can have fun myself!

As for calling out and not showing up, one day I told them a day early that I couldn't come in because I had a funeral and they were fine, just erased my name out of the book. Then another day I just didn't show up. I left the light on in my car and the battery died, had to wait for my boss to come home to jump it. By the time I got home and showered it was after 9 and I was supposed to work 9-2 which is when we close. So even if I got there and got out on the floor by 11, it would only be 3 hours, so I just didn't go, no one called, no one said a word the next time I came in. Then yesterday I totally forgot I had signed up to work 4-9 because I have never worked on Wednesdays, just forgot that I was working this Wednesday. They called me at 4:30 to see where I was. I'm glad they did because I got my ass ready and ended up doing a 5-10 (though I was still late, got there about 6) but worked for 4 hours and made money. But still, it was weird that they called, and only after half an hour. Lots of girls are late 30 min to an hour for their shifts. I guess it was because it was 4-9 and the day girls were leaving and tehre weren't many girls, whereas the 9-2 on that Friday it was so packed with girls they probably didn't notice or care that I wasn't there ::

I REALLY wish they would let me work only 2 days a week... I did my bookings for next month and I'm going to see how I hold up. Boyfriend is getting annoyed with it, I just went to the Dr. today about my knees (might have torn something, left knee is killing me since I started) and I'm so stressed cause I'm never home between all my jobs. One extra night to be at home per week would realllly help me! I'd love to stay at Risque, but if there are any other nice clubs in Philly (or Delaware Wilmington area) that have more flexible schedules I'd consider looking into it...

Just to play a bit of devil's advocate here. First, I'm not going to defend club managers here. While I have had the pleasure of meeting some truly awesome ones who really give a damn about people and this industry, they are in rare form indeed. Generally, the majority of lower-level managers usually are promoted from being doormen or bouncers and get big egos on having a lot of power over people in their small little universe. It's not all, but certainly many. Now, this being said, let's look at the other side of the coin.

You call in at, say, 8PM to announce your car broke down and you can't make it in for your 9PM shift. How many times do you think that guy has heard that exact same excuse? In some big clubs, they probably hear that a dozen times a week or more and they know damn well that cars in general are more reliable than that. My wife is another great example. She's a General Manager for a restaraunt and rarely a shift goes by when someone doesn't call in sick with some lame excuse because they wan't to go out and party with their friends. They have no risk of losing their job because they can get another one right across the street to any number of a dozen other restaraunts that are hiring. Hehe...just a few weeks ago, she had one of her assistant managers call-in sick for the third time in two weeks. Knowing my wife wasn't working that night, he came into the restaraunt with a bunch of friends of his for some odd reason. While my wife wasn't there, her regional manager was and saw this idiot and fired him on the spot. Moron.

The issue is, so many dancers take the same cavalier attitude. Who cares if they get fired from Club X because they can go down the road and work at Club Y. That's not to say that you are this type of person or you are irresponsible or your manager isn't a jerk or your car really didn't break down. The bigger issue here is that on this day, your dog really did eat your homework but try and convince the teacher of that.

See, in the manager's mind, your car needed a jump start. That takes, literally, fifteen minutes TOPS. So why is it that you can't come to work at all that night? It doesn't add up. Do you have a receipt from a tow-truck or someone that helped you get the car moving again? Do you have a receipt for the replaced battery? If you want to get in good graces, show one or all of these things to the manager and politely say to him/her, "See, I really did have a bad battery" and the issue is dead. You just have to understand, all these guys hear all night from dancers is excuses as to why they can't do something so yours was just one voice in the crowd.

DW, I hear you, but it's not like these clubs are run in a professional manner. If that was the case, why didn't the manager at least give her the opportunity to prove herself by bringing in the receipt or some type of proof that her car was really messed up? Almost none of these guys have a business degree and are just moved up from bouncer positions and are ASSHOLES!! They don't even give you a chance to show that you're legit, they just bitch you out and talk to you like a damn dog. Not justifiable in my book.

Yeah DW, I agree with francescadubois. What if the managers refuse to hear you explain what happened, or show a receipt or proof? I had that happen a few times before. At one retail job's week of employee training, I was late so I called and then I showed the little old ladies in HR my receipt, showing that I had a flat tire and had to wait around until the only gas station in my town got around to it; they were very understanding and nice! However, there were other jobs that weren't. The bitch at CVS didn't, she hung up on me before I could say anything more. I also worked at a restaurant, and the asshole assistant manager(AM) tried to write me up because I wasn't able to get to work due to extenuating transportation issues that were way beyond my control(and trust, me I tried my hardest to find a ride to work, too! Then the AM accused me of being this big "liar"(I had actually lied about something, but it wasn't work-related and involved my personal life...nothing relevant to the job, and it was understandable why I covered it up), so when I explained something concerning why I couldn't get to work, he put his hands up in the air and up in my face, saying ignorantly, "I don't care, I don't want to hear anything from you. It's gonna be a bunch of lies." And like chocolategirl6, I really *was* legitimate and he refused to hear a legit explanation! Really pissed me off.

Chocolategirl6, I agree that you should leave that place eventually. I know who the owner is and one of the managers(his name starts with an S). I don't like manager S---- because of something really rude that he did to me last year when I worked at the "sister club" that they also manage. I could PM you with the details. I would mention it here, but it's off-subject and would look like I'm gossiping.

THese people can be as mean as they want. I have had lots of managers in my day with a power trippin attitude. Find a new club. Go to Delila's. Isnt there money there? What is the deal with Philly now. I worked in Philly 7 years a go. Wow that was a bit ago. Do you still have to have a permit to dance?
