^^Oh youre bringing back bad memories from a date I had where the guy referred to champagne as "pane". And thats what he drank at his house regularly. *heaves*

I'm not drinking wine for new years... I need to stay awake!![]()
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.
Had a red Silver Oak not long ago that was easily the best wine I've ever had...should be for $440 a bottle. Fortunately, it was a gift from a friend. I like red wine quite a bit. Also, Silver Oak chard is good stuff, but pricy.

Good lord! $440 for a bottle of Silver Oak Cab!? What vintage/year?
Doh!Sorry, don't mean to be the wine snob (and please don't be offended) but I must make a minor correction. Silver Oak doesn't cultivate or produce Chardonnay at their vineyards/cellars. They are 100% committed to the Cabernet Sauvignon.

OK, can someone answer this, I can drink ten beers and still be functioning at a very high level, but 2 glasses of wine and I'm passed out with a hangover? I don't get it. Mixed drinks and shots too I can drink forever. I'm a Portuguee!!!! I should be able to drink wine. My dad makes fun of me all the time for my lack of tolerance for wine![]()

Having been born and raised here in Napa, I have a few friends and acquaintances that work around the valley, including at Silver Oak. S.O. owns an additional vineyard and winery out of which they produce a merlot under the Twomey label. I have tried a fair number of high dollar cabs, but I really don't have the palate to discern all the supposed nuances of a great wine. I do like Insignia by Joseph Phelps and Silver Oak cabs. Rombauer and Duckhorn make nice chards. I've got mostly BV Latour, Three Palms merlot, Silver Oak (a 1.5l) and a bottle of Opus One in my wine fridge and haven't added a bottle in quite some time. It's more of a gift box than wine fridge.
Silver Oak has 2 release parties a year- one in Feb. for the Napa Valley cab and one in Aug for the Alexander Valley cab. $20 a free glass, hor's de ouvres (sp?) and small unlimited pours of the featured wine. Lots of fun, well worth the drive to those in NoCal. 1st saturday in feb. starts at 9 or 10 am til 3 or so, usually.

It was tremendous.

I can't drink red wine anymore but gotta say, there are so many affordable choices for people so inclined...Smoking Loon is one I would recommend (Costco's got it)...& Target department stores sell wine where they are permitted to, they seem to have a promotional deal with some Australian wine makers.
