    First, start your day with a bowl of cereal (something more nutritious that Coco Puffs). I eat Raisin Bran, Frosted Mini Wheats, etc.. I agree coffee is always a great jump starter, as is some good, raw, or barely cooked garlic...of course that can also lead to smelly gas lol. Lots of water always! If all the healthy stuff fails, you could always drink a bottle of champagne...without fail, everyday after champagne in VIP, I get the PCPs (post champagne poops).

    It helps me to eat an apple every day. If i'm travelling, sometimes 2 apples a day. It is sooo hard for me to go when i am not at home alone. Sometimes i can't go for days!

    I take psyllium husk (tablespoon in water, it's basically generic unflavoured Metamucil), and if necessary, Cascara. Cascara is an herb, you can get in in liquid or pill form from the drugstore (in the generic/first aid section), and it takes about 2 hours.

    That's good it doesn't give you gas, but Metamucil is know to give many people gas and bloating. Since I also have IBS, I would recommend Citrucel instead so you don't have to worry about the possibility of bloating with Metamucil.
    That's what my doctor told me too. I take Citrucel and haven't had any problems with bloating or gas or anything.

    My dog eats high fiber low fat food and from eating 3/4 cup of food per day and drinking water she poops like 3 or 4 times a day. I guess the same thing holds true for people. high fiber, low fat + water = lotta poop.

    My daughter suffers horribly.. and has since a baby.. her peditrician suggested apples when she was 4, and here we are almost 8 years later, and she has at least 3 per day, followed by apple juice. If she does not have her apples, she is a sick girl.

    My daughter can not digest any type of milk product- not cheese, eggs, milk anything, it is all soy.. and the soy constipates her. Apples are a cure all. The more fiber the better, apples are a good source.

    I like fiber choice capsules. If I'm REALLY having a hard time, I'll take some Phillips Milk of Magnesia at night. Next morning I'm good to go (no pun intended there).

    I used to go every two or three days. After starting an office job where I'm eating on a schedule, I find myself going an hour or so after waking up each morning. It get's totally screwy when I take time off or have long weekends. (like now for instance, it's been since saturday morning. Alas, I have no apples or phillips at the present time..,).

    Prunes are good, as is eating a diet high in vegetables, fruit and wholegrains. I've done my share of laxatives and no longer do them (haven't in ten years now), mainly due to the damaging effects they have on bowel tone. My solution to constipation is simply to wait. Eventually whatever needs to come out will. If you're in actual pain, maybe try suppositories or an enema.

    My friend just got diagnosed with Crohns Disease which can be like IBS. the only way to tell is to get bllod tested. You would have a high white blood cell level if taht were the case. Colon Cancer also goes undetected so be aware.

    Coffee and good old fashioned prunes or prune juice. Not together of course, lol, but both of these usually work for me.

    I swear by Odwalla's Berries Go'Mega...it has a ton of fiber and tastes yummy...helps me out within the hour....or coffee
