Hey. I have a Denise Austin manual treadmill. It has 3 inclines, which I just use the level. Right now being used as a clothes rack, heh. It came w/a tape showing how to work up to it, exp.: doing stretches 1st, cool down after, etc. I start out @ 5 min, & work up to 20 min. I gotta get my a** on it, tho.

My family has a history of foot problems, so I don't run on my treadmill, I only walk. But it did work for me. I lost approx 35 lbs in a year (I don't know the kg equivalent - sorry) by walking and watching what I eat. When I first started, I did only 3mph @ 3% incline for about 30 minutes a day. I eventually got up to 4mph @ 5% incline.

Currently, I switch it up during my exercise. I'll change the speed and incline a few times while I'm on it, but usually between the #'s listed above.

I'd love to jog on it, but it would bother my feet.

I've heard on various workout shows and magazines and websites that you don't start to really burn calories and fat until after at least 20 minutes of exercise, so that's why I've always done a minimum of 30 minutes.

(Sorry I don't know the km and kg equivalents)

Kitty when I first started using a treadmill I'd run for about 40 minutes at ~10km/hr on incline 2.5. Along with other gym work (I'd do an hour of cardio) I lost about 4kg in 2 months (I didn't need to lose very much.)

Recently I started training for marathons and really needed to tone up my body a lot more so now I run 10km, at no less than 11km/hr, usually around 12.5, at an incline of 1.5. You should try to use an incline of at least 1.0 if you want it to be similar to outdoor running. Even though I didn't need to lose anymore weight and was eating mountains of food, I lost a further 4kg in about 2 and a half weeks. It also shrunk my ass by a jeans size

I do interval training...so I warm up walking for 5 minutes...then do a slow jog (around 5.0mph) for 3 minutes, then sprint (7.5 mph) for a minute...this goes on for 30 minutes...i finish with 10 minutes at a 2.5 incline walking (around 3.
