Default What's a good food for a farting English Bulldog?

    so...there's this dog.
She was on one food that had her farting a lot, and now she's on a more premium dog food. She hangs out with me quite a bit but I'm not her owner so at the moment I don't know the particular brands.

Edit: sorry-- she's also farting quite a bit on this newer food she's been eating awhile, but according to her owner it used to be MUCH worse. I still say she's farting way too much.

    I've been told organic helps...?
    any ideas?

Also, there's a chocolate lab who REALLY needs some help in this department. I think he's currently eating Purina. That dog lives to follow me and fart me out of rooms, cross my heart.

oh, c'mon...even better than "I don't care what people say" masturbation thread? I keep meaning to put up a "best ever" thread title list, or a mad libs thread list where you start with the title and then put the next thought that pops into your head...

However, from memory, I'm sure "Sushi" is one of the "best ever" thread titles-- not because it was that great of a thread but because the subject was SO not was I was looking forward to reading about.

one of the worst parts? even when they don't stink (I'd say only about one in five of her farts actually reek) they make NOISE. That's how I know she farts about four times an hour at night. Not super loud-- just loud enough to know she's tooting on my bed.

    Doggy High Colonic?

Mix some chewing tobacco with some Dog food then lock her out side. The nicotene will kill intestinal parasites which could be cause for the gas.

Umm i have snakes on my bed... Animals belong on beds with us!

The dog food this dog is eating is not agreeing with it. Also a Vet. check is important..the way these little guys are built it could be more of a problem...

PS there are anti-gas products for dogs through the Vet. My ex had a Dalmation with horrid gas, she took a pill a nite, all was well!

Again...changing dog foods is BAD too..it causes gas.

the most i can stand 'in' or 'on' my bed is a cat (mostly coz they're not stinky).

dogs most of all need to know where they fit in the family pack... or its chinatown, marge! discipline issues galore (not to mention having to suck back their noxious gases). my sister has her dog 'in' her bed between her and her bf every night. he puts his back to her and pokes at her bf with his claws all night. awesome. not.

as far as i can tell, snakes don't have that 'doggie smell', so its a little more bearable... except if you'll roll on one of the biggies and cop a quiet fang to the neck in the night. heh. do they have mouse breath? lol

We work with a greyhound rescue and own three of our own. I can assure you, NOTHING is worse than a greyhound fart. Mostly because when they are on the track they are fed raw meats and other super high protein diets which create a lot of that sort of intestinal tornado action.

One of the things we suggest to new adoptees of the dogs is to put a large dollop of plain, unflavored yogurt on top of the dry food every time you feed her. The dog will love it, it's healthy for her and it will certainly get rid of the gas problem within a day or two. The cultures in the yogurt really help with this tremendously and best of all, it is a very inexpensive remedy.

^ I agree. I worked with some whippets previously, and because they had a very high prey drive they'd swallow anything. They were the worse poo eaters ever (and yes, we tried to stop them. Little fuckers were persistent.) Suffice to say, Shit in-- seriously bad shit out, including farts.

as far as the doggy argument:
The bulldog isn't allowed on my bed without a blanket on it. She's only been allowed to be on my sheets once and that's because she spent the night and I could tell she was cold. Not the norm. Plus, she gets bathed regularly. The only bad part is she likes to chew on woodchips, and sometimes slobbers.

I'll run these ideas past the owners.

    Shpanks!

According to Lady Gwen (who is much versed on dog ownership & care) English bulldogs are unfortunately prone to gassiness anyway. You can give the dog Beano (naturally vegetarian, Gwen has given it to dogs with no ill effects.) Is/was the dog on antibiotics? Antibiotics kill everything in the intestinal tract (just like it does to humans.) Acidophilous tablets are safe for the dog also. These products are available at regular grocery stores, health food stores and even animal product stores.

PS If the dog is into eating woodchips & plant vegetation, this can also cause intestinal trouble...Keep the dog away from the woodchips & see what happens?

yea, they are just prone to gassiness.

some things to check in food to help "reduce" it (i doubt you'll get rid of it)is..

    1. make sure there is no corn in the food

    2. get rid of anything with poultry or poultry bi-product...or anything bi-product for that matter! get a real lamb and rice kibble.

bah! her entire backyard has woodchips

No antibiotics, I'm pretty sure. At least not for the past few months, methinks.

However, I will definitely be using these ideas for the chocolate lab as well because his farts are severly BAD, and probably just as often.

^^ Just think they could be given garlic tablets. Now those make doggy farts nasty....

Maybe find some gas-x for dogs?

    Refried beans.

I'm having a similar problem with a farting black kitten. She's like a little dog, she rummages through the garbage to eat things! I also realized she's been eating alot of my hair. While cleaning out her litter box I found strands of long blonde hair entangled in her poop!

Bwahaha! I thought I was the only dog owner who's dog had some serious gas problems! My other dog is a yellow lab, and she farts constanly! They ALWAYS REEK! My god, her farts would gag a maggot! I took her to the vet and told the vet that she farts like every 10 minutes. He thought I was exagerating until he was examining her and she let one rip...and sure as shit, 10 minutes later she rips off another one...a loud one at that! He suggested changing her food, but another lady told me to put some carraway seeds in with her food instead. I haven't tried it yet, I think I am going to try that yogurt idea first.

Def. talk to your vet. There are products you can use...do NOT try to do it on your own....ask before you give any kind of homemade remedy...you never know what affect it will have on your dog. Even if someone else has done it will no ill affects....YOUR dog might.

I have a year and a half old English Bulldog. He is allergic to somethings in dog food (and I've tried them all, even prescription ones). I have to make chicken with rice and things like that for him. He also eats lots of veggies and takes vitamin supplements too. I've found that he's kinda gassy no matter what, but even more when he's on any dog food. I think its just in their nature. I've heard many people complain about bulldog farts.

I do know that there is a bulldog specific dogfood at Petsmart (sorry I dont remember the name). It is even supposed to help with the gassines.
There are also some made specifically for sensitive digestive systems, which could also be helpful. The vet may be able to prescribe something like beano or whatever. But like always, consult with them before giving anything not made for pets.

    Wish I could've helped more.
